Has Arteta Truly Turned it Around?

Even if we reach top4 I think that sooner or later we will start to meltdown.
I mean, we reach top4, Arteta stays, stupid man-management as well as poor and zero flexible tactics will stay with him. The guy won't be able to cope with us playing CL, Premier League and the cups at the same time.

And I am saying this because it is pretty clear that this guy is incapable of instilling some degree of stability in performances. We are quite similar to Ole's ManU, we have good patches and bad patches, and that rules out any hope of sustainable improvement.

Don't get me wrong, if we get top4 he should stay, it would be silly to sack him, but this is his 3rd season and we play like trash. What should make us think that things will get better on his 4th season?

Which were the good chances in the last two games? Eddie came on when the games were already lost and he showed some good hustle: hit the bar against Palace, had a good header today, and another good attempt at goal - when we were already 2 goals down. Aside from the deflection that Martin ended up scoring from which other chances did you feel we created where those games should have been won comfortably?

There's a lot of possession and half chances at Arsenal and not a whole lot else, which makes it a chore to chase back goals if we concede. If anything we've been too clinical for a while.

Agree Klaus, the team he has built does not have goals in it and to score we require our players to be 100% clinical and if not there isn't individual quality you can get to win a game.

Saka, ESR, Odegard none of them are technically very good finishers right now They may improve as they are young but it's a mistake of you've built the team to rely on them for that.

We don't really have a way of playing that can tackle the type of matches taste aren't exactly as we want them and that's a big problem that hasn't really been addressed throughout his time here. If we concede 2 goals I never think we are going to have the attacking quality to get back. Even one and you feel that might be it with us.

I must have been watching a different match if we created loads of chances. Sanchez have no save to make till the dying minutes against Nketiah.

IMO 2 potential 'fixes' for this:
1 - a timer similar to that seen in cricket = if they cannot reach a decision within 2 minutes then it stays with the ref's call;
2 - if it cannot be determined by the naked eye without the extra lines etc then again it stays with the ref's decision.
All this talk about needing to be precise is just BS.

In regards to the thread title atm I'd agree Arteta has turned it around - just that we're now heading in the wrong direction.

EDIT - this season is beginning to shape up much like when LCFC won the title and we snuck into 2nd place on the last day but 10 points behind them, and the only stating senior player AW signed was Cech. We have a similar opportunity this season to regain top4, but we've fucked up the transfer windows and squad rebuild. I'm just waiting for them to tell us that top4 was a step too far for where we are at in our planning = bollocks.

EDIT - if we miss top4 me thinks our summer transfer activity is going to look very different to what we are currently looking at, both in terms of players and funds.

I think it is missed that you need 2 players to play you onside. People keep looking at the line with Sanchez but it's wrong

Must admit, I having loving eyes for Vieira.

I believe in Arteta, and think he’ll get us back to the top, but until Patrick emerged there hasn’t been a real alternative in my thinking.

We've played as many games this season as the likes of Brentford or Palace. Ended last season with 61 points, 55 GF 39 GA and that was with us reaching the EL semi final. This season eight matches out we're at 54 points, 45 scored 36 conceded.

I think people seem to view him either as he's a total disaster or he's going to be the next big prospect.

But maybe his level might be to get us into the top 4 only, maybe to carry out some of the surgery on the squad and start us on that transition process. We don't have to create a scenario where we have to commit whatever and there is no appraisal.

It's why looking at our performances across the season and for consistency is key for me. If we finish outside the top 4 I don't believe that you can make a call on whether we've made any progress or if Arteta is contributing to taking us in the right direction. If we finish in the top 4 in that season I couldn't argue that we've stepped up.

But top 6 while out of Europe, out of the cup early with the resources we have and how poor our rivals have been, I don't think that is evidence of anything and it's what most managers who were at Arsenal should be able to achieve with those conditions minimum. There is nothing of exceptional note from that.

Big chances created this season: 34.

Spurs have created 68, exactly twice as many. They've created the 2nd most big chances in the league currently. Before Conte came in they were 19th in that table. World class manager summed up in a single stat right there.

We've created the 16th most big chances in the league by contrast. Our position wasn't any better last season.

Seems Arteta has a blind spot with strikers. Rates Lacazette and Nketiah, arguably failed to bring the best out of Aubameyang. And interestingly, has yet to sign a striker as an Arsenal manager.

TBF apart from Burnley all their home games have been against the top 6 and they've managed quite a few draws.
