Has Arteta Truly Turned it Around?

I find Arteta and Ole very similar, can sometimes pull results together to look okay but will never take either of these teams to the next level they are aiming for.

Yeah, what we were seeing until the previous game was a purple patch that allowed Arteta to dodge the bullet. We could learn a lot from OGS's tenure at ManU but it seems that our board is not smart enough to learn from other's mistakes.

We are just sinking into mediocrity, and there is nothing we can do to revert that.

Arteta needs to get a bit more creative in our lower pressure matches and turn one of Pépé, Martinelli or Nketiah into a useful player, they are all languishing on the bench and have been for some time.

None of the three is a perfect player or a player in form, but they won't ever be without opportunities or a chance to grow. It's bad use of the squad to only be able to foist everything on our "old men" and the odd cutback to Smith-Rowe or Ødegaard.

The thing that stands out to me about todays game is Artetas inability or unwillingness to change it up. It was clear as day that our game plan wasn't working but we stuck with it right until the end.

It's all part and parcel really, there's no Plan B in place.

We could've served up the same performance with Maitland-Niles starting in place of Lokonga or Partey, or Tierney in place of Tavares. Specific errors aside, it wouldn't have made much difference.

Going to a back five after half time would be an option without Arteta's tunnel vision.

So... Emery didn't survive this after a very good run of results against these expected stats. I remember back then Klaus saying it was not sustainable and in the end it caught up with him. Will Arteta survive or will performance suddenly improve?

The problem is the other graphic that has been doing the rounds that prior to this game had us 4th since Boxing Day on GD, and only 1 point behind CFC in 2nd with a +22 GD. Even after this loss IIRC we are still ahead of LFC, MU & TH.

In relation to any likelihood Arteta would be replaced.

Or 12th on xPTS, which is perhaps the expected outcome/reflection of the difference in xG v xGA applied to the game results.

EDIT - also has us as 3rd worst/highest for xGA.
We're also mid-table re GF & GA & the only numbers that has us contesting top4 for this season is the points table, whilst most everything else suggests we are over achieving.

Taking out those first 3 games and only looking at the data from when we had the current players available from the Burnley game, our xG & xGA are both at 11 (with xGA slightly higher), whereas we've out performed both our xG with 12 and xGA with only 4 conceded. Whilst we're sitting 2nd on the 'table' and only 1 point behind CFC over the same period our xPTS has us down in 8th.

It's just odd that United are getting the crisis headlines when they are in a very similar position to us really. We are a team that has no real idea if how to attack opposition teams or how we will try to beat them.

Now that Ole has been sacked, Arteta will be in the spotlight a lot more.

IMO it is becasue MU finished 2nd last season and as a result there is more expected of them.
We have the youngest team on a long term project with no expectation re top4 but are hoping to secure UEFA qualification.
As it stands we sit above MU, TH & LCFC who all finished ahead of us last season, and are on target re UEFA places.

The teams currently above us on the table finished above us last season indicating we have improved as things stand, however our xPTS has us in the bottom half of the table. The top4 on the table as also top4 re xPTS but not in the same order. We are 12th re xPTS behind Brentford & C Palace who are the biggest under achievers and should be 5th & 6th based on xPTS.

Haven't seen anything as yet - apparently it was undecided at the emergency board meeting.
