What? We looked 10x smoother on the ball with both last week and this week's midfields that didn't include Xhaka. Dude is a walking calamity. Only midfielder I'd pick Xhaka ahead of is Elneny.

It's like the last 4 years didn't happen. Aside from a few hot spells, we've never looked better with Xhaka in the side. I'd rather the ineffective Smith-Rowe gained experience instead of giving minutes to the liability that is Xhaka

Yup. And it's not like he's ineffective either. He and Odegaard worked really hard alongside Partey defensively but more importantly kept possession under pressure without passing it straight back, interchanged frequently, and moved the ball on very quickly.

I'm taking whatever pleasures I can because those small bits of link up play in the middle of the pitch and up towards zone 14 would have been the minimum requirements back in the day, I'm just happy we can do little bits here and there when we have the likes of Odegaard, ESR and Lokonga in there instead of Xhaka and Elneny.

I'd even play Saka in midfield as one of the #8s rather than see Xhaka.

That said credit to Arteta on making a brave call re the shape and starting XI.

Xhaka is suspended. He's right back in the XI when fit. I'd be fucking amazed if he does not start against Spurs.

Arteta made a big/good call A v Burnley in regards to the shape and line-up, and IMO he needs to repeat v TH.

Arteta the coach/ manager has a lot to prove and I have my doubts if he will reach the top level but I loved him as a player, especially during his time here.

It gave me real joy today though watching him let loose and celebrate with such passion. It was a release from the pressure he must have felt recently but he gets the importance of the game. He played in these. You can sense he feels it. He went wild after the first goal, not just the third. I remember fondly the reception he got when he was leaving the club, his last outing at the Emirates. He isn't just any individual who has taken this job.

Come on Tet, turn it around for real.

Some kudos to Arteta for sure. Wasn't an absolute numpty like Ole in his midweek selection. Took it seriously. Has kept a more or less consistent XI in the first 40-50 days, which was has been by far my main grievance with him (alongside the people he chooses to play constantly). Has turned a disaster start of the campaign into a semblance of direction for October. His signings that he doubled down have not let him down. Certainly not RB and GK. Side may even be on their way to being capable building from the back again.

A few green shoots in the set up in the last couple of games that give me cause for optimism.

That back 5 actually feels like it has the makings of an actual unit, and not just a collection of players who happen to be fit Arsenal players that week.

Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Partey, Logonka and Odegaard is a strong core group of players who can pass the ball. Partey and Odegaard in particular feels like a partnership that can really blossom and help us dictate the midfield. If so that takes the sting out of my concerns about us not upgrading on Xhaka.

And I love our front line. May lack proven goal scorers outside Auba, but I'll never groan if 3 of Pepe, Saka, ESR and Auba are starting.

I don't know how much of a future Arteta has here, hopefully it's all up, but I've always maintained that along with Edu he's built the bulk of what's actually a really promising squad.

Got the team playing good football again after a really bad start which is good to see, and not easy to do. Tomi looks to be a masterstroke. Saw how much it meant to him today. Need some consistency now.

Derby wins are always a salve, and this one was emphatic. credit where it's due. I particularly like how decisive he's been installing ramsdale as no 1. tomiyasu, odegaard, ramsdale all look good. experienced players showing more fight than last season. we'll see how we get on the next few games.

Can't call for Arteta to be sacked right after that match that's for sure.

We've had the best and some of the worst, the run of matches we've got coming up from here through to Pool will be a solid test of how we can prosper in this league with few distractions and an initially fit squad

A BIG call to reinstate Xhaka immediately following the suspension, and to revert back to the 4231.
IMO the rebuild isn't finished as yet as per the reports targeting a CM, CF and WF.

Does this performance and result give more confidence re the process and the football played?
Is consistency the only remaining issue to resolve?
