Need more spunk in goal. Play Jens
Has Arteta Truly Turned it Around?
Just realised if we get a new manager they'll have to agree to be on that All or Nothing bullshit.
Need more mediocrity at CM. Play Arteta.
The only way Arteta doesn’t get sacked is if he goes to 3 at the back.

He will, it will happen in our next match.
No fucking idea of how to get the team creating chances in any formation, so hopefully we can keep it tight.
Captain wrote:I disagree. We had something like 60-70% possession for long passages of the game, which just doesn't happen if they were only doing what you're describing.
They were dogged and we were slow on the ball and off it. Do exactly what we did at 1.5x speed and we win.
Both Arteta and Edu need a HUGE end to this transfer window in order to create any sort of optimism or reason for the supporters to get excited for this season ahead.
What now appears obvious is Arteta the coach & manager needs top flight players in order for his system to succeed, just as Guardiola has struggled at both Bayern and MC until he was able to sign players better suited to his style requirements.
As discussed earlier Arteta is looking to impart an elite level of play at a club that is decidedly mid-table in both resources and ambition/appetite to change, and the two do not match.

Yh been think this for a while.. still early days but White doesnt look like is suited to a 2 right now. Not sure any of are 10s are worth sticking with this formation for and this team isnt going to be domination the middle of the pitch anytime soon even with Ode.
343 plays to our strengths right now.

I don't see anything particularly elite in the way Arteta is trying to play to begin with. We could have PSG's squad and I'd still say his philosophy to football isn't particularly worth preserving.

I could see that being a real selling point for Rodgers.

Agreed. Arteta's football is too defensive and archaic. Reminds me of Jose back in the day, without the quick counter attacking football. Like the worst combination of Pep and Jose. I think who he reminds me of the most is van Gaal at United. Boring, safety first football with possession concentrated at the back and middle third. Horrid football.
I'm done with Arteta. I tried my hardest to get behind him and cut him a lot of slack in his first season but last season was the pits. No improvement, poverty football until Christmas, slightly better afterwards with results going more in our favour than it was before but all these narrow 1-0, 2-1 games going either way is not the way to build a top team.
You can't play football by reducing the margins so much that the game can go either way hoping the odd goal goes your way. That's what I'd expect from small teams hoping to cause an upset by keeping things right and hoping to nick one.

the sequel to that envelope scene would be something with our lot. might need 10 envelopes to really ram the point home

I think that's what the club and Arteta think we are trying to achieve with his background etc, but I also think the task is simply too much for a rookie who is learning on the job. The fact that the club is as dis-functional as the team means he simply can't get on with his primary role.
I was watching a few of the training clips when we were in preseason, and every open field session was the team doing the same pattern of working the ball to the fullbacks for a cross or cutback. the image below has been going on since arteta joined and it's absolutely by design.

I recall the question was raised last year as to who he was going to tend towards mostly in style. We said at the time he mostly resembled LvG where the system is king. The hope was when he got the team more in line with what he wants that the football would improve.

It's absolute trash and was shown up even more than usual on Friday because Martinelli was AWOL and Tierney was trying to do his Sunday league dribble past two players.
Arteta has one get out only and it's Saka. He can take the ball in a crowd, break the line, carry the ball long distances and still make a good decision at the end. Once he's out of steam, we will pay a heavy price.
Absolutely which is why I'm not shocked Xhaka always take the easy way to go out wide rather than slip forwards through in the middle like he does for Swiss
Why does he want his system to be about working the cut-backs, though? I mean, how shit and unimaginative is this guy?
In his head it looks like Man City.
It's most likely we'll be on zero points with a goal difference of possibly -8 or even worse after the first 3 games. Perhaps the last hope for the season is that after the mauling by Man City there will be a desperate deadline day shopping spree like 10 years ago after the 8-2.
