He's important because he is the best of a bad bunch. We needed better than him. Our experience with Partey thus far has been very disappointing.

He's been injured or playing through injury. Harsh to suggest it's down to him, he's shown plenty of times in La Liga and CL that he's more than good enough

Yeah, I wasn't pointing at ability, more so at the amount of time he has spent at 100% on the pitch for us.

It's so annoying because he barely got injured at Atletico and now he can't seem to stay fit. What looked like an aberration of a season possibly due to the lack of a proper pre season and being rushed back now looks like some state.

He looked great in pre season too.

speedy would probably know in better detail but I'm pretty sure injuries and being behind in training can catch up to you even after you've been playing a while. Us getting him at the last possible moment was always going to bite us in the arse, I've seen it with so many clubs and so many windows and still we look to penny pinch where it ultimately ends up fucking up our whole season.

it's as if he hasn't won an FA Cup in his first half season.

The goodwill for this has been used up. How long can he live off two good wins against City and Chelsea?

We rushed him back last season after the first injury too. In hindsight that was a big mistake.

We quite literally pushed him onto the field while injured.

getting this fraud out is so important, but more importantly is getting edu out too. he clearly has no idea what hes doing, steering the ship at arsenal is a bit different than running some club in brazil

there is zero identity or direction in the club right now. the whole coaching staff and the technical staff have to go. we need an actual football man with experience to come in and run the club and appoint a real manager.

we are so terminally fucked

Arteta is garbage but he isn't going to sack himself. Kroenke probably hasn't seen a game since the F.A Cup final.

Meltdown incoming due to the next two matches. After that the team's morale will be very low, we may have a very ugly losing streak.

This is all on the coach, this team is more than capable enough to beat Brentford. Sack the fraud plz.

I think heavy losses in the next two will be enough to see Arteta go. Especially if they are big losses which I see the City one being. Lukaku will have fun against this defence next week as well. Even Arteta won't be able to survive 3 losses, 8 to 12 goals conceded and no goals scored to kick the season off.

the idiots in charge will let this go on another 3 months and we're hovering in the relegation zone again. in saying that, there's a dearth of quality coaches out there. should've tried to scoop up tuchel after the debacle of the first 5 months last season

By all means sack Arteta, but it's silly to act all shocked when we field a midtable team, tell them to play like Man City, and they play like a midtable team.

Arteta clearly doesn't know how to make this team play well, which means you either clear the team or get rid of Arteta. In theory we would attempt the former (good), but we haven't, so might as well try the latter.

Stop it guys. We are 2nd in the table since January.

arteta has no resume whatsoever, and this job has swallowed him alive. for his own good, he needs to be removed. watching him flounder on bezos-vision won't do him or the club any good either

No need to blame individual players. This was just another typical Arteta performance. Shit structure, no intensity, and seemingly no attacking plan.

We do two things. Pass to Tierney to beat his man on the outside and cross low, pass to Pepe to beat his man on the inside and loft a cross to the far post. Nothing else. The odd burst from ESR but in terms of an attacking strategy that is as far as it goes.

Spot on.
No team plays. Like a bunch of players thrown in a shaker and told to play football. We don't have a coach.

Could be, but not for 20m I think.

He's not very good and at the same time quite important - it's a bad mixture. I don't see the problem with selling him and then buying someone better. But the club must have felt that what Roma were offering was not close to enough. I don't think having him as a bit-part player will work.

If that's the approach for a player who is a square peg etc during a rebuild when you need to create space in a reduced squad, then IMO the club is doing it wrong.  The worst thing about it is that it also means they've probably been 'doing it wrong' for most of the other players we have wanted to purge, and it's little wonder we still have players at the club who should have been gone last summer.

The other thing I don't 'get' about this Xhaka situation is what was the point of taking the hit on players last Jan if we're not going to follow through this summer?

And if we're still keeping players looking to generate some revenue then why are we still playing a shape and system that this core of players are not suited for?

Lastly if we agree that selling Martinez and keeping Leno was an error in hindsight (no matter how understandable at the time), IMO we are doubling down on the same error in selling our fringe HG players by looking to create space and generate revenues becasue we can't/aren't prepared to simply move out players who have been identified as not being good enough.
I'd have more patience and backing for the club and management if we had taken the hit on binning those players not suited, and keeping our youth and changing our shape and style accordingly even if it meant we did/could not sign big ticket replacements.  As it stands IMO the squad is no more fit for purpose than as seen from last summer.

ive been droning on and on about the lack of athleticism and power in our team so im not going to keep saying it. but we are absolutely shambolic in that department. teams just bully us and play us off the pitch. second best to every 50/50, no urgency in our play at all. did brentford have an easier game in the championship last season in that regard? doubtful.

its embarrassing.
