I know you’re joking, but come on banduan, do you not realize where Auba is in his career arc right now? Are we not seeing things clearly as Arsenal fans? What striker are we getting? We don’t need a big name at this point in time, we need potential, and someone with the skill set who can actually fit into the system which Arteta evidently wants to deploy. Auba wasn’t poor last season because he had poor players around him, he was poor because our system does not lend itself to the kind of opportunities on which he used to thrive. And because he is noticeably slower, older, and less sharp / hungry. Time to move on. A year late actually.
Chelsea can afford him. They are trying to win now. We are not. Us, we have the luxury of time, and can focus on building for the future. Loosen up some funds, make Incremental progress. Get a young versatile striker who will improve, and focus on getting us back into Europa league spots next year while he settles in and gets used to the league, and then be in prime position to explode the next couple of seasons after that and help us back into Champions league. That is a vision and a feasible and attainable objective.
Let’s keep Auba because we can’t get Haaland or another establishment top striker is just lazy and unambitious, rudderless thinking.
