We wish he’s Ramsey. Even at this age, Ramsey has much better ball control. He also has much better off the ball movement. He makes the runs that get him passes. Willock makes weird runs that kill passing angles. He’s famous for getting into the box, but ESR can get into the box just as well as he can and has far better technique. I know who I would rather invest in.

Ramsey at this age had a preternatural ability to anticipate what his partner needed and show up for a pass. He lost that or didn't focus on it after his 2013-14 goalscoring spree, but prior to that, he used to be the ideal central midfield player who was always in the right place at the right time to receive a pass.

Same. Don't rate Willock so highly to be a fixture here. My main problem with him is that he has no on field intelligence. Offer 15-20m and I will bite your hands off for it.

Aneke is having a decent career as a 2nd forward in lower leagues, could easily play Championship level too. Afobe injury ruined him, but don't forget he had 3 10+m moves and broke 2 club records fee for those clubs IIRC.

The beauty is that a decision doesn't need to be made for the best part of 1.5 seasons. Willock was jumping and evolving up to that Leicester game he claimed the MOTM award this season. Now he's out of his comfort zone and will be thrown into an environment that should engender growth. In too many ways to mention. I'm interested to track his development. If he wants to enjoy things further up the pitch, hopefully he gets to racking up around 30 passes a game consistently, 1-2 key passes too but most definitely learning to put away his goalscoring chances that he creates through intelligent runs and positions. We'll see if he's more central in practice; I have my doubts about his desire to do the laborious parts there.

Thats the thing. Willocks value wont drop barring some sort of injury disaster so we may as well see how he goes. With the likes of Eddie you have a contract finishing next summer so you have to make a decision now to stick with him for another contract or cash in.

Why do people keep saying Willock is an 18 month loan when Newcastle confirmed it's a 6 month loan? Is the extra season just an option that they can activate this summer?

It's just six months, not sure where the 1.5 seasons are coming from. Maybe people read until June 2021 and thought 'oh that's more than a year from now'.

😆 That was my initial thought too when details about the loan came out on Twitter and such. I don't think I've seen a double season loan mentioned anywhere by the actual clubs.

It wasn't 'all journos' but there were a couple of Newcastle based ones that mentioned it would potentially be an 18 month loan. My guess is that it might be something they review and extend in the summer, possibly pending a contract extention.

All well and good sending him out on loan to another PL club, but we need him to actually play. The 18 month figure from the journalists was plausible and may possibly have been verbally agreed as a way to encourage Newcastle to play him as he isn't good enough yet to justify breaking into their starting XI now. Maybe it was the just the fact the deal was arranged on deadline day meant there wasn't enough time to put together all the conditions an 18 month loan as would be more complex to account for things like relegation etc.

An 18 month loan makes a lot of sense if we don't qualify for Europe. If we're in Europe then we need guys like Willock.
