My take is he’s probably on 100k basic as initially reported, he’s not playing so won’t meat the bonuses while the sign on fee has already been paid out, so there’s probably no great sacrifice. Kia however is parroting that 240k line that click bait articles trotted out to make Willian look like a footballing saint.

Exactly what I thought as well. He's definitely taking some pay cut, but nowhere near what's being reported.

Shocking buy at the time, we could have got most stickers back then bar a few, and we picked Lacazette.

Most of us said on here he wouldn’t cut it, and here we are.

The Bell isn't reliable. He's been spouting a load of shit thats pretty obvious since he got the Maddison stuff so spectacularly wrong. He's just trying to save face by posting rubbish about things that everyone knew was going to happen anyway.

He upgraded on Lacazette after 1 year with Auba. He is a smart man he knew Lacazette can't cut it.

he bought auba after 6 months and taken as a whole it was a daft use of resources that we're still paying for to this day

and I don't recall us trying for a striker other than the 2013 summer of suarez/higuain. the benzema rumours in 2016 were horseshit

Hard to call Laca an upgrade on Giroud in hindsight

Signing a top class striker is probably the hardest thing to do in football. There's a reason why Chelsea just spent £100m on a 28yr old Lukaku, City tried and failed with £120m bid for Kane while United signed a 34yr old Cavani and 37yr old Ronaldo. Meanwhile Liverpool are playing a winger up top.

it's not easy, but we've fluffed it since rvp left, which is 10 years ago. even taking into account how hard it is to find a quality striker, that's an inordinately long amount of time to be fucking around

We are still paying for Wenger's stinginess now.

Higuain in 2013 would be worth Madrid's asking price. Just 5m more anyway from what we are willing to pay. Suarez would be super worth it and would even have profitted from it if we paid Liverpool's asking price of 50m. The next summer we were unlucky with Benzema's last min change of heart and then subsequently Vardy's change of heart.

These days we have no business in buying top strikers, can only invest in young potential ones and hope they come good.
