He's 28 though, a new deal at this stage isn't protecting anything. If you can't get £18m for him now you wouldn't be able to give him away in a year or two.

Stopped watching Arsenal from Feb onwards, caught up with the results. Don’t see that changing this season, with the signings we’ve made, and Arteta around.

not as annoyed with this, mainly because fullback isn't as consequential as position as centre mid, and bellerin is younger so there's still some value to protect. it does give off the vibe that we've conceded on refreshing CM and RB for this window. it's clear xhaka and bellerin have been looking for a change of scenery, and we've shopped them around without success.

full expect news of a lacazette renewal soon as well. I called that one a year ago

Surely there's no value to protect, he's the third or fourth best player in a position that needs strengthening.

well when I say protect value, Its more like preserving it for another day instead trying to sell him for a pittance next summer. I'm not seeing many right backs out there willing to push the boat out for in this window so it looks like we're not pursuing it. it's not ideal, as I'm painfully aware bellerin isn't up to it anymore

overlooking centre mid on the other hand is more far egregious. we're sitting on the biggest pile of declining disposable assets ever, and we've stocked them up for when all of Europe is going bust
