might also resuscitate Pepe
Yeah thats my thinking as well as he knows how to play attacking football, can bring players through, has a decade of experience and seems to be reaching a level now where he is getting more from his team than the sum of their parts. I don't think a French manager would be the worst idea ever for our squad either. I know he's talked of ambition to manage in England so I'd hope he's got some English.
Actually, when we think of Lille, the person you want is Luis Campos. He was the DoF who left last week. He is one of the best DoFs in the game. Obviously, he found players like Pépé, Gabriel and Osimhen. Remember that many of these players were highly inexperienced when inserted in the Lille starting line-up. Campos is also credited with building Monaco, discovering or attracting Mbappe, Mourinho and Silva. It is his squad building talents that helped take Lille from relegation zone to currently top of the table in 3 seasons despite constant sales.
Campos is the DoF you want.
I know I keep mentioning DoFs and not coaches. But I really think if we are going to stop the rot at Arsenal, we need to build capabilities that outlast first team coaches. The ability to unearth, value, develop, and dispose of talent. Once we can do this really well, it will be easy to identify the coaches that best fit our culture, and give them the platform to succeed. Start here.
