Something like Partey, (Locatelli), Lokonga, Elneny is a good midfield selection. And then we can give Azeez a few games as well.

A pretty big difference between that midfield with and without the name in parenthesis though. 🙂

Whether we want to hold onto him or not (and I'd say not, especially without EL), there's no way he should be given a new deal, it's not like you'd protecting his value.

Anyway, it's probably quite telling that there's been no talks since.

Exactly. If he has value you sell him, if he doesn't then let him run out his deal. To give him a new deal means not only do you see him being here next season but you see him here the season after that for definite and possibly even beyond. Imagine watching a 32 year old Elneny playing for Arsenal.

Can't score, can't tackle and his passes are usually 5 yards.

I don’t know who the second midfielder will be. As you know I’m longtime admirer of Locatelli and truly hope he might join us. If we have one of Partey or (Locatelli), we can compete in any game. We saw that this season when Partey played. The expectation is that in 70% of the games, Partey and (Locatelli) would play together, giving you on the best midfields in the league.

The guys beyond that need to be serviceable bodies. More important is who are the typical starters in other positions available to partner with Partey and (Locatelli).

We offered a new deal to everyone. Nketiah and Mustafi had a new deal on the table too. Just a normal modus operandi

Otherwise I agree that I don't want a player of his extremely limited skillset and poor positional sense in that position.

He’s your 4th midfield. If you have 2 established stars (Partey plus one) and two starlets (Lokonga and Azeez), why on earth do you need anything more than Elneny in the mix? It’s just misplaced angst.

He's scored 1 league goal in 6 years here.

Back when Cazorla was here and playing a deeper role - He had better defensive stats.

He is a filler player, not a starter. I expect him to have his limitations. He is decent for the role he plays and has useful experience. It’s our first team we need to be worried about right now.
