if eddie stays, you have to assume that arteta wont bother playing auba at striker at all moving forward. laca looks cemented as first choice, even though that feels like a big mistake.
The Jan Tran
That wasn't the case over the last 6 weeks though, not only did Auba start up top when Laca was on the bench, but more often than not when Laca is taken off within games Auba is moved up top with a wide man (Willian, Martinelli or Pepe) coming on. Eddie has 9 mins of PL football since the 19th Dec.

Southampton need general full back cover, which is why apparently Ainsley would prefer West Brom as he's more likely to get game time there.
I’ve read that West Brom is his preferred destination because he would get to play in midfield there, which is his favourite position.
If I am AMN I would go for the team giving me a midfield spot because thats where I want to be given the chance to prove myself. That's what I meant by him not going to a team to play fullback.

Yeah, but if you're AMN your priorities are like this:
- Go for the team that gives me a midfield spot
- Go for the team that gives me a fullback spot
- Stay on the bench
Which is why it doesn't make sense to say "Why would AMN go to a place where has to play fullback?" because you don't know if the team that gives him a midfield spot exists, and if it doesn't then a fullback spot is the best option for him.

His limitations is starting to get exposed real bad now that we have developed a consistent style.
But we know Arteta always love to have depth. And to be fair our strikers are very inconsistent so it's probably good to have them all here
Danny Rose going to sit out his contract at the scum. Nice one Danny
Joel Lopez trained with the first team apparently. Wonder if he could get a shot.

Great. There is our back up LB right there ffs. Looks about 12.
I mean the back-up is still probably Cedric.
On Lopez, you gotta start somewhere. Have blooded many young FBs over the years.

And back up RB?
I guess Chambers can play that role.
As it stands it’s a 8/10 Jan window, back up LB would have been icing on the cake though making it a 9/10.

Probably still Cedric with the option of Chambers. We've endured such a bloated squad for so long, we need to get used to smarter squad depth again.
Tierney/Cedric and Bellerin/Chambers will work. It's not a great set of fullbacks, but it wouldn't be if we got a backup LB either because it's the first choice on the right that's the problem. With FB backups I'm fine as long as they're not liabilities.
Lamptey and a left back in the summer
I’d rather get no back up left back than make a bad long term investment here.

exactly. signing a van aanholt makes no sense when you can just promote someone from the youth team.

This is how we ended up with a bloated squad. You ever tried to tidy a room while kids are playing? That’s what folks are trying to do. While Edu tossed out Mustafi, y’all are like here’s van Anholdt.
Joshua King to Everton. Can't imagine that he'll play much there, he should've probably chosen Fulham instead since they also wanted him.
Everton might get European football, Fulham might end up with Championship football.
