Yep there will always be a dark cloud around Partey until this things gets resolved and that makes me uneasy.

IIRC Luiz was a last minute thing after we couldn't get Danilo. As such I don't expect us to be back in for him in Jan & same applies re Tielemens who I don't think can improve enough in terms of goal scoring for the new role seen from Xhaka.

I have seen reports suggesting we have spoken with Juve re both Locatelli and Vlahovic potentially being available in Jan. Even if not true it could serve to indicate we are looking at other options than Danilo (who was planB re Locatelli?), let alone Luiz.

There are rumours we might be back for him in January. I don’t think he is a bad squad option at all, rather have him than someone like Elneny. One thing I do like about Luiz is he is a very good ball winner, rest of his game isn’t up to scratch but that is something we lack in our squad in midfield. Apart from Partey we don’t have anyone else who I’d say can win the ball back frequently in midfield.

Assuming he’s available for around £10-£15m in January I’d take a punt.

The Brazilian has room to grow. Could be a worthy successor. I'd say the only stat where Partey really stands out is his dribbling/ability to beat players with the ball. Otherwise DL does not compare badly at all, and is already Premiership proven at a lower quality team.

With the added quality he'll bring on set pieces, and for the discounted price and cover it provides in a crucial position, it's a no brainer

I'm not sure he'll be good enough to be our first choice but definitely a good option for the squad. With Partey's injuries and his ongoing legal matter we can't afford to be without a ball winner in midfield.

He had a spell where he wasn't doing great and its telling its exactly when we lost control of the game and conceded the first goal. Once he came back into it the whole team started to click again. He's pretty vital to whats going on, which is a bit worrying.

I though he was right up there with Martinelli, Saka, and Thiago as the best players of the game. Those four were a tier above everyone else.

He's the single most important player at the club.

Imperative that he stays fit if we have to be anywhere near City through the season. Without him we will struggle to get top four imo.

Need to bring in someone in January too from a long-term squad planning perspective.

It's only worrying because of his injury record, but Fernandino, Rodri and Fabinho are/were just as essential for City and Liverpool and neither had any real cover for either. Maybe City could compensate with the sheer quality around the role but still not the same without them.

That lone 6 position is both incredibly demanding and important. Need to get the successor right.

Am I the only person that still thinks he's too flaky? A great goal and a win against Liverpool don't change anything for me. If he can prove his quality over a full season then happy to reconsider but for multiple reasons, we still need to be looking for alternatives.

To be completely honest I probably think nobody on this forum rates him lower than you, especially if you still think it's not clear who should be selected ahead of him and Lokonga.

That's taking what I've said out of context - my point is that Sambi needs minutes from a developmental perspective (something I think we all acknowledge was severely neglected last year) so based on Partey's form (and what I perceive to be Sambi's potential), I'm happy to rotate accordingly.

Was referring to when you said about the Aston Villa match that he should keep his place ahead of Partey if he kept that up. Might've just been in the heat of the match though, fair enough in that case.

Ah right, didn't realise you were responding to that specific post. I stand by it tbh - Sambi had a great first half against Villa (and at the time, Partey had been pretty underwhelming). It was a little bit 'heat of the moment' but I definitely think based on their comparative performances, Sambi definitely deserves a few starts.

He has been great. One of our top performers this year. Artetas move to swap his and Xhakas roles midway through last year has turned out brilliantly.. Had no idea Xhaka would grow into the role as he has but was calling for Partey to play a more withdrawn role at the time.. He is much better when he has a bit more time on the ball and not having his back to the opposition goal as often.

He needs to play the same v weak teams as he does v big teams.

I think it could be a concentration/motivation issue. The way he gets himself up for big games is something else.

Also he needs to really cut out his sloppy passes.

No he is still a bit flaky, his form earlier in the year was the kind of form we need for him. He showed that in the 2nd half yesterday.
