i hate to use the h word, but he seriously looks like hes been playing with the handbrake on almost since he got here. he played well in his first few appearances, then he got hurt, and since that first injury, he looks like hes been playing at like 40% effort. hes clearly afraid of getting hurt again, which indicates to me he knows he isnt fit. we just have no other options

I think all in all he's been our best midfielder and is the least of our worries, even if he isn't playing at the absolute top of his game.

Nobody in the team is, the problems run deeper than individuals. It's a nonsensical squad makeup with too many injuries, duds, kids, and pensioners and not enough Partey's. That the coach is fucking it up even more results in the kinds of performances we've seen, not to mention the fitness concerns md brings up.

That sounds about right to me. He seems to have been rushed back every time he's been out, wouldn't surprise me if he's carrying some sort of issue.

I don't disagree but it has definitely not gone well, partly due to injuries and partly to other reasons down to the manager and player himself. Some top players come in and make others better around them instantly, even in a side lacking balance and quality in areas. I expected that of Partey. Hope it's the stop start nature of his season and nothing else.

If he wasn't played everyone would be on the coach's head for not playing him. But he's playing and seems to be unsurprisingly less sharp and so people get on the coach's head for playing him.

a few people on this board have been saying that partey shouldnt play if hes not fit. him playing at 50% capacity is probably better than the alternatives, but it could have long term damage on him as a player, forcing him to change his game and compensate, which is a real potential negative.

this season is mostly over at this point. play him in the SF and F if we make it. but the league is now pointless. if we get knocked out against villareal, he shouldnt play again this season and should just focus on getting fit before next season starts.

Which is what we did yesterday. I think Arteta shares your concern. He basically put him on yesterday to warm him up for Thursday

Seems to have flown a little under the radar after a few great individual performances yesterday, but he was superb. That pass to Auba was sublime.

Even in pre-season he's looked more like the Partey we all hoped we were getting. Fingers crossed he can stay fit this season because he's a genuine game changer.

he's a hell of a player in full flow. hopefully a good 2-3 more years of peak tomas. need to capitalise on that, because midfielders this good don't come along often, especially at our club

Agree, it's really positive. My anxiety (and not just with Partey) is that I feel our performance will fluctuate massively if any of the starters get injured. Squad is thin on quality, particularly in central midfield.

Let's also not forget AFCON. That will be when we see our squad really tested.

Yeah I'd have him right up there if we were talking about MOTM. I'd probably have ESR ahead of him but its close. He makes a huge difference to us. I hope he can stay fit.

Partey is head and shoulders our best player.

he should be in the champions league. he's wasting his time here, but i guess money was more more important and i can't say i blame him because i certainly won't be feeding any of his family in the future.

Which is part of the reasoning behind my criticism of not getting the job done in the transfer market ove the last 12 months, and if we take too long before we are capable to challenge for top4/UCL. We have a history of losing players to go win silverware & titles elsewhere.

EDIT - I suspect the original game plan was in 3 steps/seasons = rebuild, regain UEFA, then compete for top4 & UCL. However COVID has changed that capability in terms of the natural means of doing so in regards to funds.
