Ceballos has the better number of defensive actions compared to Xhaka = same number of tackles but almost double the number of interceptions.

I like Ceballos' tenacity but just watching every game Xhaka is a much better defensive player in my opinion. He has more nous, positions himself better, especially in the box. Ceballos has way more ability on the ball though.

Disagree. I think Ceballos is way better defensively. If I'm not wrong the stats prove it too.

I think positional awareness is the one area Xhaka excels. Whenever a keeper hits it long under pressure Xhaka seems to be there to win it quite often. Same with loose ball from the oppositions, very good at cutting passing lines. Ceballos is just generally more tenacious, better anticipation, better at pressing and nicking the ball away.

IMO Xhaka excels at ball recovery rather than actual defending (tackles/interceptions), and the reason for this is partly because he sits deeper as he lacks the physical attributes to get back if he goes higher up the pitch in support. Sitting deeper also allows him to see the game ahead of him and have more time to make his decisions, whereas IMO he lacks composure and decision making when he is more involved in the action such as when he is pressed etc.

Dani harasses players and goes to win the ball. A lot of the time xhaka just positions himself and tackles people as they take him on.

A few nice forward passes yesterday but overall poor.

He didn't look a 100%, as if he was recovering from an illness, or maybe its tiredness from all the games we've been having in such a short space of time. Hopefully he can get a bit of rest until the next one.

He looked like a one-man midfield again. As in, Xhaka was really far apart from him at times.

Arteta's tactics can be odd.

I thought Xhaka played alright actually. He seems to have started playing better with Parety in the team, maybe the pressure of not being the main man has helped him.

I would rest Partey v Wolves on Tuesday though.

I thought Partey was very good defensively yesterday. Probably his best defensive performance for us so far. A lot of the issues going forward seemed to stem from us losing the midfield battle, but it wasn't because of him. We should have met the challenge from Pogba better on the right to prevent him from overloading the centre.

Partey made a lot of bad passes though. Can't let him off of those when we skewer Xhaka every time he makes em.

He was just sloppy on the ball, I actually called it before the game when talking to a mate that I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of poor games from him, he’ll be feeling sluggish after the initial rush of getting back on the pitch.
