Putting it in here too:
The way he beats the player is the eye candy, but for me it's just as important/significant what he does when he has gone beyond the player = he releases the ball whilst still in space to a player breaking into more space between the lines ahead of him, AND changing the focus of the ball rather than playing within vertical lines and movement only. Â
The changing of the angle/focus is also something we weren't doing often enough whilst he was injured - particularly when we were playing out from the back and breaking the press. This is what Cazorla was good at doing, and what Wilshere failed to do often enough and then refused to change his style of play (because he thought it was about injuries to himself rather than about making the defence have to shift focus on the pitch so as to create space for players to exploit on or off the ball). Â
IMO this clip exemplifies why I now see Partey as being our replacement for Xhaka as DLP, and why I want to see MO as our #8 in either the 4231 or 433. IMO it is also significant the player Partey passes to is ESR, and I think MO can provide a similar option and movement on the other flank.
