Every club is loaded with players considered shitsters by a large number of their fans. For me it seems you absolve Arteta of every responsibility to get decent football out of them which is a core task of every coach in the world. You can't just work with great players, you have flawed youngsters like Guendouzi or AMN who looked like he'd make the RB/RWB position his early on, you have veterans like Mari Leno or even Kolasinac who have put in much better performances early on than they do now, yet you're seemingly fixated of cleansing the squad of every single player who's not exactly tailor made to the gaffer's preferences.

I think you'll find by the time Arteta manages to cull everyone he doesn't want some of the guys who looked great early on will have turned to duds themselves, it's what happens when you don't know how to coach attacking patterns and stifle creativity. How long until Martinelli becomes one of those youngsters who simply didn't want it enough?

It's not about Arteta's preferences, I want the players out that I think are not good enough for various different reasons:

Leno
Bellerin
Holding
Chambers
Kolasinac
Elneny
Xhaka
Torreira
Maitland-Niles (listed with the midfielders!)
Willian
Lacazette
Aubameyang

In a perfect world, Pépé too. But I accept he's still a good age and has a lot to offer.

And Martinelli has been dreadful since his injury, so who knows what's going to happen with him? But he looks completely out of his depth any time he steps on the pitch for us.

Most specifically the part where Xhaka even though he's telling off the fans, throwing the armband, saying to the press that the other players at the club haven't been as good him etc gets called a better "character" than player like Auba because he's tackling hard.

It's literally because he had the audacity to tell the fans to fuck off that he has some character. I'm not saying it was right thing to do in the moment, but none of our other delicate little flowers would even dare.

Wasn't it commented on a lot by journalists when games started to be played without fans, that Xhaka didn't stop motivating and organising? He's a lot of things, but let's not pretend he isn't one of the most hard working and important players on the pitch most weeks.

The club let Ceballos Luiz Guendouzi Özil Sokratis Mustafi and Mkhitaryan go since Arteta now you're adding another 13 players to the list (among them players like Auba and Pepe too ffs). That's almost a full squad of players. You've watched guys like Conte come in and win league titles with Luiz Moses and Alonso, Klopp won it plus the CL with Henderson Firmino and Gomez all as starters. But when Arteta finishes 8th twice somehow the only reason for that is his being stifled by a bunch who have all shown sustained periods of much better football under different managers, worse yet who almost exclusively have never looked this bad in their careers. Really don't know what else to say.

a great manager takes the ingredients he has, makes the best version of that team possible, and eventually replaces the parts that dont work with ones that do.

half this squad is arteta's now. the other half hes devalued and shit all over.

we play easily the worst football of my lifetime that i can remember, mostly because i wasnt around for early 90s arsenal. it is so painful watching us get 1-2 shots on target in a match. during the wenger years, we were shit defensively but at least you could expect the team to score a few goals every match. now its a huge event when we get a shot on target.

this shit is just completely unacceptable. arteta is in over his head. end of story.

I said I'd keep Pépé and that he has a lot to offer, but he plays like a brain dead player too often and a bit of a one-trick pony. If Aubameyang could find his previous level i.e., wasn't 32 years old then I'd obviously keep him too.

All the rest I can't wait to see the back of (maybe Holding I have a bit of a soft spot for because he's a good lad and not terrible and Leno was more than decent for a bit), but the rest are dross, were dross, and will continue to be dross. And the others you listed: Mkhitaryan and co., thank christ Arteta got the club to get rid of them.

We'll agree to disagree. Quincy does have it right there's something very British about your posts here but it's not the tough tackling part but the heavy reliance on signings to fix any football related issue. Might be because in England the guy in charge is called manager instead of coach but for any club who are not sponsored by billionaires or another country we should be looking for a boss who can coach a team which includes players they might not be entirely happy with. Calling them all dross useless etc is really only a way out if we're Man City.

End of the day, we all know Wenger would do miles better with this squad on his worst day. Wenger was a world class coach and that's what we should be aiming for - not settling for the crap we're being served.

A very slim part of me thinks Arteta may be able turn it around, but really that's just being an Arsenal supporter. Everything points to him being terrible and/or woefully out of his depth.

Losing to Brentford has really shaken any sense of faith or hope I had in this setup. I don't think it has much to do with tactics, the performance was Wenger-y in the sense that there was no competitive edge. After a full preseason, it's just totally unacceptable.

With the team we had out, why would you be shaken or even surprised at us struggling? A wantaway Leno in goal, Chambers at right back, White rushed in for his first game, Pablo Mari at centre back, a Lokonga debut in midfield, only 20 mins of an under-cooked Saka, kids up front, so many players missing. Not to mention it seems very likely there's chaos behind the scenes, unless Lacazette and Aubameyang are actually ill.

It would have been odd if we had gone there and played really well to be honest. Then I would have been surprised. Nothing in pre-season or in the starting line-up suggested that would happen.
