Vermaelen was an awesome player before he became permacrocked, but I don't think he was physically complete. Lacked a bit of height.

Some of these cats posting weren't even talking in those days. A tragic state of affairs.
The team deserves a lot of credit for securing this man. I'm just overwhelmed by the quality of his passing. The difference in his ability on the ball versus Holding and Kolasianac is immense. Just watch when those guys have the ball and where they are typically passing - it's short passes, mostly to other centre backs and Ceballos who has to drop back. This guy is spreading it everywhere, and really giving us the opportunity to advance play.

Overall, he was once again our top passer with 93/103 passes. 10/11 attacking third passes which was 7th on the team (We had 51 last week vs 122 this week)

Idiots were talking about his complete lack of right foot but failed to realise normal right footers don't use their left foot much too. 😆 Anyway he do uses his weaker foot every now and then and its completely fine.

If Saliba is not ready, Mari could partner him in a back 4 and we are set.

Watching Elneny pass the ball square and slightly back to this guy over and over and he'd right away play it forward through the lines. He's a real slab of a man, too.

El Neny had a half decent pass map today. 19 of his 84 passes were in attacking 3rd. He got forward nicely to contribute for the first goal.

Honestly, I think when you have combinations of players - guys like Kolasinac:Xhaka, Xhaka:Holding, Xhaka:Lacazette - they aren't very progressive because they like short passes, resulting in the ball stagnating. That's one of the things to watch out for.

The problem with Xhaka is he's not hitting good through-balls on the turf. He's hitting Hollywood balls over the top to Auba. He's also dropping back to give himself more time out of traffic to do his passes.
