Precisely. Having a left footed central defender who is comfortable passing is so important for distribution in all areas to the left hand area of the field. Especially if we end up playing a back four and move Tierney into LB. we need someone who can shape his body to pass out to Tierney and Aubameyang, straight to (Aouar) and in to Xhaka etc. Right footer will take touches to turn his body

Mari looked more confident on thr ball than luiz. And when luiz inevitably starts breaking down we need an calm experienced head in their. Mari offers us that.

Also when were closing out a game having someone with his height makes sense especially now we've found a way to make 3 at the back work.

I remember when Chambers made his debut also. We thought he was Tony Adams reincarnate.

Our run of fixtures coming up will tell us a lot. I just hope people aren't too knee jerk if he makes a few mistakes in those games. He could be built up and knocked down pretty quickly with the way fans are these days.

But.

For me what is more pleasing is that Gabriel and Saliba tower over most defenders we've had at Arsenal this past decade. Chambers is tiny next to them.

Of course there's a trade off and they're likely to be less mobile but for now I welcome this shift away from weak CBs

Played fairly well, but he looked a lot less agile than I thought he would be. Think he could struggle against quick attackers.

Too early to make any real judgement on him. His first game in 6 months and probably not anywhere near fully up to speed.
Also will need to give him time to adjust to the league as well. Good thing is generally we a lot more defensively compact so you’d hope he won’t get exposed too much.

And only 2 training sessions with the team since he signed makes it all the more impressive.

One hell of a start. Much better in the air today too.

Love that he doesn't always go for the safe pass out to the wing, played those reverse balls into midfield several times.

Chuffed by his start and great to have a left footed centre back of decent quality. He paired better with Holding I think but nonetheless the three plus Mari hopefully give us a chance of moving to a back 4.

He's always been superb in the air. One of his strengths. Delighted about his start, should really have started at Anfield too. Told ya he will be a mainstay in our defence for the few years it's sorted.

Ditto, and Saliba is possibly one the best CBS we have theoretically for a back 4

Yeah maybe, just thought against Fulham and/or West Ham he got under the ball a few times and lost a few aeriel duels. Won almost all of them today.
