We’ll have definitely improved defensively, but still worried about how effective our attack will be.

Really? You don't expect any of Pepe, Saka and Nketiah to do better than they did last season? I'd throw in Lacazette as well, but that depends on if you think he's finished or if he can do better than that.

We've found a formula to beat certain types of teams, remains to be seen if we can pick up the 'easy' points. Not sure that our wide players have been the big issue there, but it's wait at see at this point.

Think the key to beating smaller teams is the midfield. Essential for raising tempo and dominating possession.

You need to include the wingbacks as part of the midfield in those games I think, they need to be much more attacking than they are when we are shutting down big teams. Hopefully with Gabriel and Saliba in the side we can move to a back 3 of them and Luiz (if we keep the back 3) and let Tierney bomb on down the left. On the right it depends who stays but whoever it is needs to do much better supporting the attack.

Yeah it's all about our technical level and possession game, which have been of a really low level for a few years now.

Under Arteta I'm confident against all the good teams but against lesser teams/fodder we just don't have what's required at the moment to dominate and win convincingly.

Happy with the wings now but need to sort the middle.

Tierney fundamentally plays as an attacking fullback when we are in possession though, with Maitland going into midfield. Not sure there is much to be gained by changing that. Only if we move to a back four would there be gains by arguably playing a 10 or an attacking 8 in place of Maitland.

Tierney needs to get further forward and more often against weaker teams. If Bellerin goes I wouldn't mind AMN from the right tucking into midfield to let Ceballos get further forward and doing a bit more work in the final 3rd. At the moment its unbalanced though and we are too deep overall. If Tierney stays in the back 3 then Saka should play LWB against weaker teams and he's much more progressive from wing back than any other player.

Yeah, you could flip it around, and there are different solutions. As it stands though, I think we should be keeping the core elements that work and think about tinkering elsewhere.

I hope that our new CBs will let us go back to a four man defense, at least after a couple of months or so. Both our main tartets according to reliable journalists are CMs so I don't think it's the plan to keep playing 343.

Depends if we sell Bellerin or not.

Don’t really fancy AMN in a back four if I’m honest unless we play Cedric there.

I hope that too, at least for regular games. Looking at it now we'd be well set if we had Luiz, Gabriel, Saliba and Mari as our CB options for a 4 man defence. They'd rotate pretty naturally considering theres 2 left footers and 2 right.

Good game to get his feet wet. We'll have to be a bit patient as he hadnt played football for 6 months, but if he can bed in quickly it will help us alot

Fortunately the next 2 games are comfortable before we face Pool, Sheffield and City. Should be enough time for him to settle down. He had a seriously impressive display after his early nerves. If he can keep it up, puts less pressure on Saliba. We can save him for the League Cup and Europa League for now.

One of the most reassuring debuts from a new CB in a long time. Really hope he keeps this up and maintains this level against better opposition because if he does, we might truly have a gem on our hands.

Great debut performance. Can’t wait to see Saliba integrated in this team as well, and how he would fit into Arteta’s system.

With Holding also looking to be part of Mikel’s plans and Luiz staying for another year, I wonder what the point of signing Pablo Marí was.
