Denilson - I Hear Tony Adams Needs a CM

It's as much an attitude of complacency than anything else. In terms of quality, other teams have shit players. But not many who will get away with the sort of attitude displayed by Denilson and Diaby at times, as often as they do.

Thats rubbish. Rosicky or Eboue for instance would have been playing much better, heck even a Wigan player would have performed better than that shit Brazilian.

If you sell Denilson, one of Frimpong or Lansubry would be promoted, when he is not even an option for us its definitely an improvement

Given the congestion of our schedule in a typical season, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect we should have at least four, if not five midfielders "as good as" the likes of Cesc, Wilshere and Song. Ramsey may reach that level when he is match fit, but aren't all the other youth players - Lansbury, Frimpong etc. included - long odds to be that good in the next one or two years?

Nope, we have Ramsey and Diaby as back-ups. We have Denilson as a back-up to them and yes, you are stuck with that level of player at that point.

You don't even need to search your memory too far to see why, Diarra fucked off after half a season of cup games and sitting behind Flamini, Gilberto headed out for the same reason.

The type of player you have desscribed generally doesn't fill a bench spot these days because they can get first team football and the same wage at another club. Look at any squad in the league and that is very apparent.

Surely if we were to buy Masherano we could sell Denilson?!

My point is that Denilson is not a reliable squad option.
He is to my mind the exact opposite of a competent professional.
Selling him would improve the squad as we would be eliminating a weak link.

Unfortunately I don't think squad options like Lansbury would really help out more than Denilson and Diaby. Just like them he will only really be used in the first team after injuries bite or in irrelevant matches.

The players that should be putting pressure on to be first choice are Ramsey and Diaby. Both forced their way in to the first XI last season, but havn't really given themselves much of a chance this year due to injuries (and idiocy on diaby's part).

I've no doubt that a Lansbury, Frimpong or Coquelin could do more with denilson's role. Besides which, Lansbury has earned a shot imo.

Lansbury earned a shot before he even went on loan.

His ability is underwhelming but his main problem has been his attitude and spirit. Particularly this season where he's simply given up trying. I know people weren't too keen on him way back in 2008 but if he played at that level today he would make an excellent squad player. Now he's tentative, complacent and goes through the motions for 90 minutes.

If we had any leaders in the team, they'd corner both him and Almunia and remind them what is at stake.

@Tim: we would then be relying upon one or two out of Diaby, Lansbury, Frimpong, Coquelin or Ramsey when we get to this stage next season, probably when we're getting around to playing Barcelona or a top four English side in the Champions League.

Diaby I've given up on, too inconsistent. The rest will be somewhat unknown quantities as far as whether or not they flourish in our setup, though it looks like Ramsey will have a good chance to impress before the summer.

We need wenger to be crafty and have decent utility players, players like van bronckhorst and zanetti

Lansbury and a good player of at least Song level is the boost we need for the midfield. It doesn't even need wholesale change, just one good signing changes the whole complexion of our set up.

BW, there's no point investing heavily in a youth system and buying up some of the best young players around if you aren't going to give them a fair crack at some point. As I said, Lansbury (and possibly Coquelin) have done everything asked of them and deserve to be given a shot as our 6th choice centre mid option.

I doubt it will happen, but without this change you are looking at your Wenger-selected midfield being Wilshere, Ramsey, Diaby (or other) at this time next season when Cesc and Song are both out for a month or more.

He's a player who puts in 105% every time he plays. We don't have enough of those.

Denilson looks shot to me, i think he knows he's not good enough and is playing with absolutely no confidence. He's so uncomfortable defending, his so called discipline means nothing. We'd be better off playing Ramsey there who should at least use the ball cleverly.
