It's not about any particular individual, it's about the collective. Since the widely available vaccines reduce hospitalisation etc by say 90%, the difference between 80% and 90% as vaccination rates in terms of impact on hospital capacity is high.

If there's room for a high case rate, it creates a strong incentive for social enforcement of vaccination. It's not rocket science.

I don't like the idea of forcing people to get vaccinated, certainly not for an illness like covid and with the vaccination campaign at an advanced stage as it is now. Its opening a can of worms which has never been necessary with covid anyway.

But with all the exceptional circumstances, bubbles etc made for football players I don't think this isn't a case for an exception from that rule. If he's adamant he doesn't want to get a shit because of mRNA being new or whatever other reason he should have organised a covid-pox party while on vacation.

Calling it 'forced' is a bit strong. It should be a work requirement, nothing more. We accept so many other mandates, hard to see why this is the breaking point.

Because it very obviously is setting a dangerous precedent.

Calling people idiots who refuse the vaccine is ridiculously simplistic. Are fifteen year olds part of that group? Do you have to get a shot when the danger of an infection is non existent to you and everyone who's at risk got one already?

No, fifteen year olds are not part of that group. The chance is only non-existent if you stay at home 24/7, never go to the grocery store etc.

I meant danger of falling ill, not of getting infected.

15 year olds are part of that group now in Germany. Despite the long standing vaccination panel stating for months on end there's no need and recommendation from them for 12 to 18 year olds to get a jab after political pressure they changed tact and now say everyone from 12 upwards should get a shot.

I gave that example to show how the decision is not even a medical, let alone a personal one but political first and foremost. You don't protect others by getting a shot, you protect yourself. If the state is allowed to tell you what to do for your health we might as well ban cigarettes, alcohol, junk food etc.

putting side the wider vax debate, mourinho actually commented on xhakas instagram to get jabbed. weird love affair these 2 seem to be forming. here's hoping jose still wants him next summer, or perhaps even pushes Roma to try again in january

He probably thinks he can convert Xhaka intro being the next Pirlo, but I think he's a bit too risk adverse and looks to play safe. I don't remember the last time he played a 'risky' pass by choice, other than when he was being pressed on the ball himself & he gives a hospital pass to a team mate.

To be fair Xhaka does play progressive and at times risky passes, and when he does they usually do end up being very good passes. His problem is he takes too long on the ball and panics when pressed and ends up panicing and passing it back or wide.

Sure. "Social enforcement" just means the usual pressure though, not vaccine passports or club regulations or whatever, even though those things are happening too no doubt. I agree with Coombs, for Xhaka it's a tiny thing compared to the whole set of expectations on footballers.

Social enforcement just means stuff like this, Xhaka copping it online for not getting vaccinated. It's normal. It's just a way of people in general to focus their feelings, correctly recognising the collective benefits of a high rate of vaccination.

Like I mentioned, Arteta loves Xhaka. Everyone can commit a small error and be banished, but Xhaka is undroppable for him no matter how many red cards or direct errors leading to goal. His true leader which is why he is desperate to keep him and give him a new contract. People who thought we will upgrade him is way off. I had missed this interview. I mean to me just confirms the assessment of both Arteta and edu I had made based on their actions. Both seem to find back him and rate him, nothing else you can really draw from how they've treated him and to be confirmed they both seem clueless given how much of a detriment he is and clearly limited let alone all the poor football intelligence and character traits he has.
