Since he's serving a ban after red cards half the season he can really put in a lot of effort the other half.

3 prem red cards in 161 games. It's to many but also over dramatised. Lots of peoples favourite arsenal players have that many and nobody goes on about it.

The other half of the games he is available in he is costing us goals with stupid mistakes or slowing down the play

I can't really say he's ever busting a gut either though. I've seen Auba drag us through games and to silverware.

True. Its one of the big differences with our best young players, most of them don't shirk responsibility.

There’s no point showing for the ball if you pass it right back to the guy who gave it to you. And the only time he’s taken the game by the scruff of the neck is when he got sent off for it against Burnley. I actually think Granit is a lot like Auba, when it’s going well and the team is playing well he’s a rock, but when it’s suffering he’s often the most annoying player on the pitch.

Edit: actually that’s not true, Auba did carry us in a number of games prior to last season.

So we can admit you made up the not showing for the ball bit.
On the passing it back to whom he got it from, do you think the stats back that up or Is that completely wrong?

Auba is twice as talented. Just CBA. He's the opposite of xhaka who has limitations but gives everything.

Auba was so so bad people were even saying competing physically isn't part of his game. What other player in the league isn't expected to compete physically for the ball.

The guys who's taking us for a ride gets a free pass and the guy who's busting his chops for the team gets nailed to the cross.

I'd back aubameyang to turn his form around before I'd trust xhaka not to something moronic or sloppy on the pitch. auba simply has more cache built up based on his resume. he's burned a fair chunk of it with last seasons showing which was arguably the worst in his career since his st ettienne days, but comparing him to xhaka who has literally thrown the captains armband on the floor in a hissy fit and trying to portray him as a hard working martyr - come on

regarding goons point on him being a shirker- I don't think he's consciously doing it, it's moreso his lack of quality reduces him to a passenger in high intensity games - team-mates pass around him for fear of him being pressed, or he does a load of backwards/sideways passing because of the pressure. the only moments he stands out in those games is through his errors/fouls rather than doing anything productive

It was basically what I was referring to earlier, when the team isn’t in a good place he’s one of the main culprits that start to play it safe, without really trying to make anything happen. Im not going to go into it too much though as I don’t want it to come across like like dislike Xhaka or feel the need to assassinate his character, we all know his limitation (except Arteta seemingly) and as Gazza says when it comes down to it that’s the issue.

I don't disagree with that he's in the wrong position & role, which still makes the decision to persist with him and give him a new improved deal all the more mind boggling. As for being our best CM I suspect a big part of that is because everything around him is compromised as a result of his continued selection = he should have been binned off before AW.

As such IMO rightly or wrongly Xhaka represents the demise since his arrival under 3 managers to date, and as such he needs to go sooner than later so as to complete the purge and any lingering associations with the demise on the pitch for both the players and supporters, let alone that he's been an absolute prick to both supporters and team mates.

That's your reality. What is the point in referencing his national team performance in one game and worse conveniently branding it standard. He is better for the Swiss and yet he looked as bad in a couple of group games as he has done for Arsenal. It's a totally different pace, tempo, physical intensity and also mentality.

If Xhaka grabbed Arsenal games by the scruff of the neck, fans would know. He grabs necks for sure. He is much more likely to lose possession in a dangerous area, make an inane tackle, concede an unnecessary free kick than drive through the midfield and make a difference. He takes time to control easy passes, takes an age to turn and then ponders on the ball before a lot of times just passing it back. Fans want him replaced because we need a better standard of a first team player.

What Xhaka does for the Swiss team is irrelevant. He has been poor for Arsenal.

Part of that is not his fault, he can’t turn into someone he never was, but to act as though he give 100% every game and praising the best of a bad bunch is ridiculous.

Where has impartiality gone?

Aubameyang has dragged arsenal to wins single handedly over the years, but it is no point in pretending he has been very poor over the last year.

It also bemusing to see Xhaka propped up as a model of consistency, when in reality he is a symbol of how far our standards have dropped.

Hashtag leadership. One of the mysteries with this guy is why he's so well-liked in the dressing room versus the time bomb quality.

I don't see the contract extension as a total disaster—I can't see the point—but it would be great if he could now put together a consistent season.
