I don't ask to litigate that point of view, but to point out that there's no clear correct and settled political lines on some of these issues. Which is one reason accessible films about these topics that are somewhat engaged with reality are a good thing. Not that I think Baker is uniquely verité, but his films are better than daytime movie morality tracts.

This is my take as well. The account you're looking at is nobody really, with 200 followers. I don't think it makes much sense to say that he shouldn't have won best director because of who he follows, I just think it's sad if he's the kind of guy who buys into the bullshit Chaya Raichik spews.

Gazza M saw this yesterday. Very, very entertaining film. You never know where the movie is going but in a good way. It has blended so many genres/themes into one move. Michael B Jordan was fantastic. He will be to this generation what Will Smith was to kids growing up in the 90s.

Watched this last night. Agree with the above. Peak movie making. Incredible symbolism and storytelling about the roles of faith and music, the trauma of colonialism, the threat of interlopers. All acted wonderfully, and with an incredible score and soundtrack. I hate monster movies, but this was a treat

I have just watched Michael Mann's Thief for the very first time. James Cann, James Belushi, an absolutely ripping soundtrack from Tangerine Dream and some shots that have to be seen to be believed. You could call me a fan, you could say that.

Burnwinter I think it's not just that I hadn't seen it mate, I didn't even know about it until relatively recently. It's just been reissued in the US on Criterion, so I'd been reading about it. I haven't got that reissue (because, obvs I'm not in the US) but I picked up the previous blu ray. One of the best films I've seen for ages, was sitting with half hour left, thinking, I can't wait to watch this again!

And no, not seen Rififi. Will seek it out.
