True. Their mistake was not selling Kane for big money last summer. They should have taken that and rebuilt cos they aren't going to win anything anyway.

What's that model we're operating under? Because since Emery and more so Arteta took over we've been deep in the red every window and don't look like changing that any time soon, in fact Inter spent less than we have in his two years there.

To be fair though Tottenham have spent plenty themselves, the issue is less with how Conte's teams operate in the market but his tendency to bitch about and put public pressure on his clubs at any opportunity. Can understand why you'd be put off by it, just saying our spending habits post-Wenger wouldn't have made us a bad match for him.

A mixture of desperation and delusion is what led to Mourinho and Conte. For where they are as a club, as a squad, and their ability to attract players, Graham Potter would have been the right appointment, not Conte.

That said, it's still absolutely extraordinary that Conte is speaking like this in public. It's clear he doesn't see attacking Tottenham as self-sabotage. I would be absolutely appalled if my manager spoke about Arsenal like that. Conte really is a horrible piece of work.

It's all relative, we spend a lot of money but it's still ranges from about 50-65% of what City, United and Chelsea have been spending for a lot longer, and that's discounting the wage bill (apparently United's is now 4 times our own).

In order for us, Spurs and probably Liverpool to compete, we need to go about squad building in different way. Longer term planning, make your own stars, more youth etc. Can still splash out on a few big money, low value signings but it needs to be a part of a longer plan.

Conte's not down and out, but the sheen is off. Wedding night's been and gone and he woke up next to Spurs with a bad hangover and the reception still to pay for.

Would have been a terrible appointment at Arsenal, an off brand misfit on a crisis trajectory.

Felt the same to me. He was right about it too to be fair. I doubt most Spurs fans are angry at Conte, but they will get mad if he doesn't receive proper backing to address the issues.

Arteta was coming at it from the angle of standards, where we need to get to blah blah.

Conte is, like virtually everyone predicted we would be, annoyed by what he isn't getting.

Also, Arteta doesn't have any other options than to try and build something here. It's his big chance.
Conte will just get bored and annoyed, leave after a few months and leave everything halfway done and/or in a mess. As someone said, most people predicted this when he was appointed, and it's exactly what would have happened if Arsenal appointed him.

That's not what you said though, you talked about Conte being a bad fit for us because of our spending which is just not true since Wenger left, our net spend since then is more or less the same as the clubs you've mentioned in that time frame. Conte doesn't want his club to have a high wage bill either he wants the club to sign the players he wants and get rid of the guys he doesn't want, literally the same thing Arteta has done since day one.

You're right that Conte didn't exactly emphasise signing youth in the past but it's not like he only signs geriatrics, his two signings so far for Spurs were 21 and 24. Longer term planning doesn't mean just signing kids, it means being smart about what you pay for these kids and what you get for your outgoings, neither is the primary responsibility of the manager but you can't blame Conte for that when under Arteta we're spend big, ruin transfer value of our outgoings and run up a massive deficit ourselves.

No Arteta for at least 2 pre match games when he started say alot of our players are not good enough etc and people agreed with him was very happy he lashed out in public.

Arteta's style is more like this: deepen a rift with our biggest name player mid season, get rid of him altogether and then talk about being "100% the solution" 😆

Feel like Tottenham could have moved forward by selling Kane and handing that cash straight to Conte to do what he wants with. That would have at least built some forward momentum, versus the sluggishness they're still in and an upcoming disruption this summer.

Arteta did a lot of talking about how many of the squad weren't good enough last season too though.

Conte is talking as if Tottenham are beneath him, not for one second has Arteta ever done that. From the moment he was appointed, he has talked up Arsenal in every way possible and expressed how blessed he feels to have the job.

People will say that's because Arteta is lucky to have the job and Tottenhan are beneath Conte, but Conte knew the club he was walking into, and that makes him a self-serving rat for my money - just as he has always looked from the outside. And if he didn't know what he was signing up for then he's an idiot also.

Whatever my thoughts on Tottenham, I obviously couldn't give a monkeys about them, Conte is shitting on the club and its history in public to seve himself. Not cool.

Well it is Arteta's first ever managerial job, of course he isn't going to say the Arsenal job is beneath him, as I'm sure he wouldn't even if he was the manager of Burnley. He should be grateful that a club the size of Arsenal took a risk on him, coming with no managerial background, mainly because he's an ex player.

Conte has won it all. Going to Spurs was always going to be a shift in his approach.

When did I say that? The only thing I recall saying about Conte is that he's a bad fit because he wants immediate success (i.e. competing for titles). He would absolutely advocate more signings like Luiz and Willian. You could make a case for Chelsea, but there's no chance in hell you can even begin to compare our spending with the other two.

These are the same two signings he's complaining about lacking experience whilst also claiming the squad has been weakened 😆

I'm not blaming Conte and I think Arteta is pretty much cut from the same cloth. Main difference is the latter is privileged to be at a club like this and has to work within whatever framework he's given. The upside is he's forcing the club to spend on quality while still building a young squad for the future as per the clubs MO. Conte is a big name that didn't even respect the hierarchy at bigger clubs than Spurs, it's his way or the highway.
