lol lidl rosicky. I'm sure dules is being hyperbolic but I get his point. some people were willing to make him our sole CAM based on 6 months of football, and despite a sketchy injury record. he's showing amazing promise but that's still all it is. give it a few more seasons before putting the club on his shoulders

He was our second best player last season. Basically saved our season when he got his chance. He's been our best player so far this season. People are underrating him cos he's not hypey enough for them. If he played for City, Barca, etc they'd be in love with him.

Only dules is underrating him tbf. And he's clearly not the type of player for dules anyway he prefers more power

Other than Saka and Pepe, he's the only one in our squad with any kind of running power.

last season was the worst in 25 years. not exactly the best yardstick. highly promising player, that's all he is right now. thats not underrating or overrating him. heaping all this expectation him on will leave you disappointed

My disappointment will come when he heads off to one of Europes top teams.

I recognise that he can carry the ball well in to space, though doesn’t beat men consistently when having squared up to them.

His passing isn’t particularly cute, he doesn’t carry enough of a goal threat and he fails to impose himself in games far too often.

I get that he’s young, but I don’t really see him improving. Certainly wouldn’t have him in the starting eleven over Pepe, Saka or Odegaard right now.

He’s spoken about as if he has the talent and potential Reyes had

None of Europe’s top teams will be after him.

He's absolutely worthy of his place in the first XI. Has been much better than Odegaard and maybe even Pepe since last January.

I would be more high on esr in the hands of a better coach btw. a ten hag, Potter or dare I say Rodgers would make me optimistic about his trajectory. prime Wenger could've moulded him into a 20 goals/assists all round genius player worth 50m+

Its definitely a worry at the moment, although you'd have to have similar concerns about all our youngsters under the current set up. Its already taken its toll on a few.

Just to carry on something from the Houseboat thread....

My Wish List signings for our attack next season = Haaland, Mbappe, Gnabry.
Haalands' release clause for next summer is less than what we paid for Pepe,
and both Mbappe and Gnabry at this stage are out of contract at the end of this season.

That said IMO we lack the ambition / appetite as it would likely mean we would need to secure UCL for next season, which would mean us needing to regain top4 this season. Likewise I do not think the club under KSE or manager has the profile/credin=bility to attract players in this sort of opportunity.

Toney & ASM. Forget the midfield for now - fixing the attack should be the main priority at the moment.

Yup, I think Coombs was right all along. Partey is definitely better suited to being a 6 rather than an 8. Even if we signed someone like Bissouma I’d play him as an 8.

I had it backwards a couple of years ago when it came to holding players. I'd think you play a Bissouma right in front of the back four where the can best protect it. But what you really want to do with players with that much running power is play them where they can cover every blade of grass. They'll offer constant tackles and interceptions, and won't expose the defence in doing so.

What you want at 6 is pretty much exactly Partey. Someone whose strengths are in his ball reception, that has the strength to win physical battles in front of the back four, and the intelligence to read the play as it develops. Barca had it right with someone like Busquets.

I think he's equally suited for both. With our current players a DM is definitely what he should be.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone as good as Partey doing what Ricky describes though. It's a very demanding role. On the other hand there's a much bigger pool of players to play as an 8, including a couple from our academy but also guys like Bissouma or Kessie who can cover every blade of grass and press and win the ball high up the pitch.

Partey has always played as a 6 most of the time at Atleti, which is why I am not sure why people keep thinking 8 is his best position and 6 is wasting his potential. He is equally good at both roles.
