It almost certainly won't happen, but you never know with his history with Arteta.

We definitely do. Saka can work there because he's brilliant, but it's off the right where he's at his best. Pépé should be the one to move sides, even though he's much more one-dimensional. Sterling would be awesome playing from the left, and he'd make run after run.

I'd rather we didn't blow 60m+ on another attacking mid or winger

It depends on the set-up of the midfield; if Xhaka is part of it then I agree that should be the priority.

I guess in a way it would be fitting to go all summer while upgrading every other position than RB and CM which everyone agreed before the summer were the two biggest problem areas, only to on the last day blow 60m on a Pépé replacement.

It might be possible that Arteta is going to switch up the midfield though. If he buys another wide player then you'd have to think he would plan on playing all of Auba, Saka, Ødegaard, Smith Rowe, Partey and the hypothetical expensive new wide man? With maybe a cheeky Aouar loan to act as competition in the AM role.

I'm dreaming though, this isn't going to happen. It'll be Xhaka/Lokonga + Partey with Ødegaard ahead and Saka and ESR/Pépé wide.

Yeah agree Ricky. Even top teams can have gaps and weaknesses if some areas are extremely strong.

The potential forward line with Sterling that has ESR and Ødegaard behind them has everything - creativity, skill, athleticism and output.

I would have loved to see Xhaka upgraded but since that didn't happen it would be good to see us improvise and get better still.

Just because most thought a CM and RB is priority, doesn't mean it's the only way to improve the team.

The biggest factor here however is Arteta and how he can get any side to perform.

we'll be like the mancs, all the bells and whistles in place but lacking a proper midfield base. the mancs midfield will cost them a tonne of points in its current state
