we haven't seen odegaards full capability imo. the play has to flow through him, but arteta doesn't put much focus on playing creatively through the middle. in that sense, it may not be worth buying him

I agree with that for the number 10 as I think ESR is better at the things you mention, I just don't think Odegaard is well rounded enough to do a job deeper in midfield. Plus Partey is a perfect 8 for me and I'd rather get a 6 in there to play with him whether thats a straight up DM or DLP. Either way they need to be good at the defensive side of things.

Would you take any of Sabitzer / De Paul / Pellegrini / Locatelli instead of MO as part of either a twin pivot CM or midfield 3 in a V?

Although if KSE don't provide additional funds I don't think we'll see any of Grealish, MO, Buendia, Neves, Bissouma, Silva or Hakimi.
That said it doesn't mean we still can't get some tidy players - Pellegrini, Brandt, de Paul, Locatelli, Emerson, Anguissa, Pereira, Milik, Edouard, Aouar, Dembele.
IMO the most important outcome/s for the summer is to complete the purge and to have a match day squad that is 'fit for purpose' at the very least in terms of tactics/style/shape.

Going by this season, Xhaka is our best central midfielder. Not that it’s saying much, but yeah.

Also, with Arteta still at the club, there’s more chance of him regaining captaincy than leaving.

Neves, would sort out our biggest issue in the team, central midfield.

I still don't trust either of our CF options (PEA & Laca) in our current passing, possession based linking style requirement at CF.
Still not convinced the 4231 is what/where Arteta is heading.
