Odegaard is the most important signing we can make in the summer, but after that it will be... in terms of priority:

1) Starting RB (Hakimi)
2) CM (Tchoaumeni)
3) Striker

Those are really the 3 obvious weakness in our starting lineup. After that, a LB backup etc is not as important.

I don't think a striker is a big weakness personally, or an area for easy gains, unless you can find me a 20-30 goal a season link player.

Are you assuming Saliba is used next year? Otherwise I feel we need another top centreback

Would personally take the suboptimal Cedric or Kolasinac (if we are stuck) as deputy LBs in stride if it meant the club were able to focus on Ødegaard and two of those three positions. Hats off if they manage to address all three.

Whenever "new CM" doesn't play, Partey will have to be the defensive one. I personally don't think we can afford to keep three players in each position, if two players in the same position are injured/can't play we'll have to use kids or mix around formation-wise. It's more worth it to have higher quality in fewer options.

Think that midfield is asking for trouble. If you want to sell Xhaka you need to replace him too (on top of another CM signing).

Agree although I like the general framework. Personally would nuke half the midfield and act like a big club serious about pushing the rebuild: Xhaka, Elneny, Ceballos, Guendouzi. I like Torriera, would think about keeping him but otherwise him sold too. Think Willock needs another full year on loan.Would get in two CMs in addition to the biggest push on landing Ødegaard. Players like Alaba, Moutinho, Bissouma. Since thats unlikely I'd aim for a pool like Partey, Ødegaard, Smith-Rowe, Torriera, Bissouma, keeping one of Maitland-Niles and Chambers for rotational usage across their capable positions (LB,RB,CB,CM).

I don't mind Xhaka as a backup option, similar to how Mari is used. We just need to make a Gabriel type signing in midfield.

I like how Arteta doesn’t dismiss the need for more physical players like Wenger did

I recon we’ll get Bissouma and Konate or someone similar to give us a powerful spine which won’t flake if Partey is out

That option displeases me so much, but his resale value is probably so low and the sunk cost (familiarity with system, improved game, well liked) is so deep that it seems likely.

Agree with nearly all of that but I'd sell AMN and get a left back. Use Cedric on the right with one other, maybe even Bellerin for another season. Also don't think retaining Laca or Eddie is worth it as it would mean either offering one a new deal or letting them go on a free next summer. Should be able to sell those 2 and use those funds for a new striker.

Agree we don't need 3 for each position too. 4 CBs, 4 CMs, a front 6-7 players, I'd even be willing to sell Nelson from your group there. 4 full backs, 3 keepers. Everything else can be made up of youth in an emergency.

Agree with the striker part actually. If we sell both and buy a new one it shouldn't be impossible budget-wise, I just fear that we won't be able to rid ourselves of all the players we want to.

I'd be reluctant to let Eddie go. I'm convinced he's going to turn into a class goalscorer in the near future. Then again keeping him just for the sake of it is pointless. He didn't even make the bench today. We can't waste important development time that way if he's someone we believe in, and if he's not then the only fair thing to do would be to let him try his strength elsewhere.

I'd like a buyback clause if we sell him at the very least.

I like your general idea, but the midfield is far too weak and there are some players there Arteta don't fancy having a future here so I have edited that for you. Also included players that Arteta obviously love a lot not to get sold. Do think Willock needs another year on loan too.

I also forgot about Torreira. If we dont manage to ship him out he's an upgrade in the Elneny role even if he never took to England like we hoped.

Same 😆 just can't see us selling them, Arteta love them to bits.

CB is the most complex position to solve for the club. We currently have on our books:

Gabriel
Holding
Luiz
Mari
Chambers (who can play at CB)
Saliba
Mavropanos

Of that list, only Gabriel seems to be of the quality we would want and need if we are to challenge the top 4. The others are all good (top half of a big league type players) and should fetch very decent fees in the market. I don't envy the team tasked with sorting the above out. For me, I would try and do the following:

Sell:
Holding
Mavropanos

Release:
Luiz

Keep/Reintegrate:
Gabriel
Mari
Saliba
Chambers

Sign:
A gun and first choice to partner Gabriel

The above would leave us with a four of Gabriel, new CB, Mari and Saliba and Chambers as cover for RB and CB when needed. It will be a massive task getting it done in one summer and there are no guarantees that that is what Arteta wants. I have a feeling he wants nothing to do with Saliba and will likely renew Luiz. Will be interesting to see where we land with this.

A couple of points:

1 - you only have a total of 24 players & 2 of which are 'or', and with Saliba, ESR & Martinelli all u21 = you are 1 - 4 'short' re a 25 man squad;
2 - you have 8 HG with 2 as 'or' = you will be short re HG compliance and will only be allowed a 23 man squad.

Of those players I suspect AMN, Guendouzi, Torreira & Nketiah will also be made available for sale, whilst Willock & Nelson will be made available for loans or sale.
Martinelli should probably be considered as a CF option rather than AM/WF.
I'd rather Chambers at CM/DM than Guendouzi as he can drop in with the CBs and let us play with a back3 in open play if needs be.

As much as I say much will depend on our shape in midfield, I also think it is more likely we will depend upon player sales to generate any revenues towards player signings.
Primarily this is because we have the Govt loan to be repaid at the end of the season and we do not have the funds to do so, so I think KSE are going to need to provide another loan much like we saw last summer. Ideally I'd like for them to provide a mega loan to cover both the other 2 loans taken out this season AND to provide additional funds to rebuild, but i have absolutely no faith they will do so with KSE/Kroenke having lost over 1bn re COVID.

IMO any transfer activity depends almost entirely on KSE's appetite to regain UCL revenues, and even if we do regain UCL for next season IMO any transfer activity would be based upon those UCL revenues with an eye towards operating costs including the new loans.

Worst case scenario MO may be considered a 'nice to have'/luxury as opposed to being a need.
Should we sign him if in doing so it meant we could not make any other signings in the summer?
For me the answer would be no.
That said IMO he is exactly the sort of signing we should be making re UCL and if we want to retain/attract players of similar quality.
