Xhaka's main qualities are he never hides, he's always fit and therefore he always plays. I think Xhaka gets a lot of undeserved flack but I'd also rather see Ceballos get the kind of extended runs in the team Xhaka gets because he's shown a much higher level in recent years when he got the chance and nowhere near as many mistakes. Of course Xhaka will look better when literally everyone else gets maybe two or three matches in a row before Legoman banishes them to the bench.

I would go for Xhaka and Partey and be livid that the EL final is tomorrow, the season is over, the Ceballos loan is over and Arteta still hasn't tried him out with Partey which he should've done long before the final.

These are all very capable defensive guys. First 2 also good progressors of the ball and would be a MASSIVE upgrade on Xhaka. Tchouameni is a better Bissouma.

Another player who has impressed me in what little I have seen is Ivan Ilic of Hellas Verona.

Unfortunately he is part of the Man City loan army.

Another player who probably will never play a game for City but will be sold on to bankroll an expensive purchase.

Van Basten and Wenger should look into limiting the number of players that teams like Chelsea, City and Juve can hold. About 5 years ago, Juve had 30 players aged 21 or younger out on loan at other clubs. This type of hoarding helps concentrate power

That would be smart, Claud. Another way to do it would be to simply limit the number of players you can have out on loan. It could work as a pseudo salary cap.

CFC regularly have 2-3 dozen players out on loan each season post FFP.

IIRC there was talk last summer of a proposed rule change limiting the number of players clubs can send on loan to about 8.
Not sure if this was the total loans allowed or if it was for over 23s.
Only potential issue I can see is the likes of CFC getting lawyered up and making a legal challenge based upon restrictive business practices and not allowing them to generate revenue and player development etc.

Clubs will find a way around it.

The same owner group owning multiple clubs has already become a reality in Europe with several examples.

It will make hoarding of players much easier.

What do people think of Atletico's Joao Felix? Completely unsuited to them, but is seriously talented and could do a job upfront for us. Doubt they would want to deal with us after the Partey debacle but could offer them Lacazette and a couple of others + some cash.

They bought Joao for £100m. He is the ‘franchise’. The boy has otherworldly talent. We need to go find our own.

No reason whatsoever even if we somehow qualified for the CL. Still would be one hell of a player in our new look attack.

The ultimate dream signing for me.

He would be absolutely perfect, dovetailing with Odegaard, Saka and co.

Would be number 1 of potential dream signings for me, with Grealish as number 2. No chance of either as the money needed, is better spent elsewhere to bring us up to scratch. If we make the strides we can, then the season afterwards is the time to strike.

I love Felix too. I used to think he was overrated but then I saw him dribble an entire team on his own in an Atletico game. Sublime talent stuck at the worst possible club for someone with his profile. I have nothing but respect for what Atletico and Simeone have achieved, but they're a bunch of bloody grafters and always will be. Felix was never destined for that kind of football.

Absolutely, I cry every time I watch Atletico play and see him up top. He needs to be at a club that values artistic expression. Atletico is a place for guys like Costa and Griezmann
