lol - as I said it was a list based upon us missing top4 this season.
As such IMO those players plug the gaps in the team and consolidate our current level, whilst improving our goal scoring capability and our transition without detracting anything. If we play to our capability we are top4 quality. After that we then improve what we have to again consolidate top4 and look towards a title challenge or at least to replace CFC as #3.

Fair enough.

Though in my mind, we're at a place (as a team) that we need just one or two signings of true quality to boost our starting XI.

😆 Means I'd use him as cover across 2 positions because I want his experience and boost to our goal scoring capabilities.
If we were in the UCL he would likely not be on the list.

As would I, however we also need cover and depth if we are to play in UEFA next season, even if its not in the UCL.
I'd even suggest we would need the extra players if we didn't have UEFA football, as I'd want to go hard at the domestic season including the Cups.

We might need 2 new strikers. Laca is cooked, and if Eddie leaves we would be a bit foolish to go into a season with 1 striker. Balogun will likely come back and Gabi could possibly play there, but I would feel better if 2 leave and 2 come in.

Which is where Depay can be utilised as he can provide a goal threat either as WF or CF, and would be familiar with the concept of positional play.

I must admit I am also concerned as to how much funding KSE is prepared to make available to complete the rebuild AND add depth. So unless there is a genuine bargain opportunity I would rather go for players at level and able to both finish the rebuild and add depth to maintain performance levels to regain top4/UCL, and then look to sign top quality in the key areas.

IMO this is what Klopp did at LFC = firstly he built a side to regain top4 and then he spent to take them to the next level with signings of Alison, VVD etc.

We need 2 and Arteta needs to trust them both. Take a look at Lacas pressing and energy when he first came into the team after Aubas exile. He was a different player, just look at Eddies energy in the last 2 games too. We ask a lot of our strikers physically and when they're fit the pressing works great, when they're tired its pointless. They need to be able to swap about as needed.

I disagree there. How often do Madrid swap around Benzema or Bayern take out Lewandowski, Tottenahm with Kane/Son? Can you even name the second choice striker at most top clubs? Salah and Mane have probably started over 95% of the league games they've been available for over the last few years too. Laca just has atrocious stamina and fitness and lacks physicality in the first place. It was the same with Giroud.

Maybe but Arteta wants us to play like City and they switch around their forward players regularly.

I'm also working off the idea that we wont get a player on the level of Lewa, Kane, Salah, etc

Just read something along these lines regarding the pressing actions made by Eddie v CFC (about 24 for the game), and in just under 50% the ball was recovered within 5 seconds of him starting the action which is pretty significant. Another player who ideally suits this high action trend is Jonathan David who is in the 89th percentile for the season in terms of pressing actions with an average around 16 or 18 pressing actions per game. By contrast Nunez is down around the 50th percentile, whilst I believe Martinez is near the top with his defensive contribution being considered a strength.

One of the changes this calendar year since we went to a 433 has been an increase to our counter pressing actions in the final 3rd, and a drop in the middle and defensive 3rds. This means we drop off into a mid block if our high press does not work, but we are both pressing more in the final 3rd and it has been working for us until Laca has seemingly lost any energy.

As such I'm wondering if pressing may be more important than linking play by the CF if we have 2 progressive #8s as seem with MC, and if so this may well be a determining factor in terms of our forward signing/s and a reason to retain Nketiah if at all possible.

Continuing on from my post above re pressing actions I'd consider the following:

Sabitzer instead of Maddison;
Kokcu/Paredes to rotate the #6 role with Partey (Xhaka should never be the lone pivot at the base of midfield); and
Jonathan David to rotate as CF.

I'd still consider Jesus as I'm not sure we could sign Gakpo/Sinnisterra without UCL and I'd want his experience if we didn't get Depay, plus he's familiar to/with Arteta and the football as well as being 2-3 years younger than Depay. However I'd get him to replace mainly replace Pepe as RWF rather than
CF, and it gives us the option to play with a narrow front 3 of Jesus, Nketiah & David if we needed to.

If we're looking at a short term option at CF ahead of Eddie and/or Balogun stepping up I'd be tempted by the likes of Icardi as his numbers are still very good in regards to his playing time, and the move to PSG has not done his career any favours. However unless he got his head down to do the work I don't think he's last very long under Arteta.

Gabi remains on my Wish List as someone like Icardi who scores at better than a goal every 2nd game not including his assists, which whilst they are not that many they still provide a boost in terms of goal involvements although not as good as Icardi or Jesus.

If we DO regain top4 then I'd want to make a quick offer to Barca for de Jong ahead of Sabitzer or Paredes even if it cost top dollar. Barca still need to sell to balance their books and so money could talk if we didn't dick around.

Added bonus/incentive being the player is reportedly the #1 priority for ten Hag in the summer when he takes over at MU, and it would be glorious to upset their rebuild whilst strengthening our own. Based on his time at Ajax and with Dutch football I'd expect ten Hag will want to play some sort of positional play based system, which would see MU looking in the same market segment. It would also be interesting how long it takes ten Hag to undertake his rebuild and how quickly/effectively he can get them to play on that style. This could give us some indication/comparison as to the sort of job Arteta is doing with us.

I would love him to be our Xhaka replacement.

Herndanez would be a good Tierney replacement too.

what kind of season did gravenberch have for ajax? he looked like a really solid box to box CM and is in the right age bracket.

anyway, we need a LB, CM and striker this summer, and they all need to be top class.
