My concern atm being there is a lot of talk about needing to be precise in our transfers in, and needing to sign a player who not only has the right attributes but also fits the team profile. This may mean we are paying 50m+ per player if we look to do so, which may then limit our ability to add depth to the starting XI. Worse case scenario being we do not sign anyone, or go for a more opportunistic option that may not tick all the boxes such as DCL if Everton are relegated.
Whilst I am aware they are not on the current list of big/sexy name options, I do wonder if the likes of Zakaria, Schick, Embolo & Gabi may not be effective options if we need to spread the funds as well as adding some maturity & experience, and at the same time allow funds towards adding depth.
As much as I would love to see us spend more than last summer to complete the rebuild as well as adding quality and depth, as yet we do not know where the money is coming from, and if we will still have a One Out - One In approach to transfers and funds that is likely to impact our ability to sign our higher quality targets as seen with Abrahams, Locatelli and Vlahovic this season. Likewise if we do have limited funds, then I do not want us to pay a premium for EPL players if there are more cost effective options available.
IMO as much as we want to get the best quality players we can for the starting XI as well as adding depth, IMO the primary objective should be more about completing the rebuild in terms of both departures and incoming, and having a spine that is fit for purpose. I'd like us to be able to get our transfer priorities for the match day squad done early so we can have a full pre-season to work on integrating them into the team.
