I actually thought the most impressive thing was that he didn't really need tricks but that he was able to take his man on quite effortlessly. Also impressive was his distribution and decision making. One to watch for sure.

Not sure if this is the right thread - do we have one for players on loan? Anyway, Charlie Patino seems to be doing well at Blackpool. Not sure he's the next Partey but still looks technically excellent.

But I've just seen that the Blackpool manager has been sacked recently and Mick McCarthy is rumoured to be approached. Who knows how that might play out.

He looks maybe the most Wilshere-ish youngster we've had since Jack himself. Perhaps with a more measured, purposeful use of that close control.

When he subbed on last season, I was thinking he looked too slight for the Premier League, but lately when I've looked at reels like that one, he seems to have put on 5–10 kg of muscle which is encouraging. He's quite tall, near 6 feet.

Blackpool are getting slaughtered in the Championship, seems Patino's putting in 90 minutes every week for a side that hasn't had a win since October. Not sure if that says anything.

Does this mean you're saying he's better than what Wilshere was at that age? Haven't seen a single one of Patino's matches at loan to be honest, but I find it hard to believe when Wilshere was tearing it up against prime Iniesta and Xavi at the same age. He was a phenomenon.

Bulk him up this off-season and give him Lokonga’s minutes next season.

His dribbling is slightly more adventurous than Partey, but otherwise his positioning and distribution seems very comparable.

Burnwinter it was probably an unconscious uprising from my part, against people who use that kind of comparison since it makes the player sound much better than intended - it's a pet peeve of mine. For example, Torreira when he was in great form for us was described as a mix of Kante and Cazorla, which sounds like the best midfielder of all time. Or Phil Jones when he was still a big talent. "John Terry, but faster".

Yeah, I hear you mate. I was really just talking about Patino's smooth, ambling style on the ball. Just a stunt post, long day at work, and the average level of client bullshit I've experienced so far in 2023 has my head spinning faster than a centime-oriented visualisation of Chelsea's bank account ticker.
