2 things that Martinez really excels in and can't be taught. I think his tall frame is really an advantage, incredible reach at times. There's a reason why Reading fans say he is the best keeper they have had in just his short loan spell there. Leno shot stopping is probably better, that's about it.

The smart thing really is to let them battle it out and decide next season.

If bloody average Ramsdale went for 18.5m + add ons... Martinez should easily be 25-30m.

Seriously. I understand the need to raise funds for midfielders, but we can’t just give away players because we are desperate to get cash. We can get a Bank loan and send people out on loan until the right deal comes. We have to manage cash wisely. The vast pool of central defenders can largely be dumped, but Guendouzi, AMN, Martinez and evening Chambers need to be sold well

A bank loan would probably cost as much as any perceived loss on these players' optimum value, not to mention that solution does nothing for profitability. I read one report that we're due to make a £100m loss as it is.

And no one is talking about giving players away, we're talking about realistic values given the climate, given that we want to sell these guys and given the potential lack of demand at the sort of prices you guys are talking about. You can't keep holding up a selection of the worst deals out there to counter that.

The most important thing for me is having the best first 11-15 players possible and having a £15-20m goalkeeper on the bench for 38 games of the season doesn't fit into that right now. If we have to suffer some poor-average value deals as a result, so be it.

Me thinks you are both forgetting that a major part of our 'traditional values' with our sustainable self-funding financial model, is that we aim to have no debt other than the stadium repayments (which are self funding).
Yet again we are spurning an opportunity to take advantage of our position, so as to remain true to our policy and beliefs.

I don’t care about traditional values. They gave as the third highest net spend and no titles while 5 different champions were crowned in the last decade. Interest rates are low. Football revenues and player values increase quickly. It’s madness to sell all your players at a discount because the market is tight. If you can, you finance the gap.

Goon, as for the profits and loss, again, you have to take a 2-3 year view. We aren’t a listed company desperate to hit some earnings target this year. So why toss assets away for that? If the problem is cash flow, get financing.

You're being ridiculous, Anzac. The club is owned by one of the richest persons in the world who has the only say in what we do or don't do. Our approach is not dictated by any values, just by sheer cheapness on his part. He could loan us any amount of money tomorrow to get through this crisis if he wanted, but he won't, because he didn't become obscenely rich by helping people.

If you ignore KSE then of course it's an issue. You can't keep getting financing to prop up a business that's making huge losses unless there's a prospect of much bigger returns around the corner and that's simply not the case. You're quite literally staking the future of the club on a huge gamble that these assets can be sold and sold for more, and that we actually get back into the CL. All for the sake of potentially getting an extra 5m for Martinez as his contract gets closer to expiring?

If you factor in KSE then I guess you have a safety net. But I wouldn't want to bank on this guy putting his hands in his pockets as the club falls into an ever deeper financial spiral. More likely we have a fire sale.

He didn't loan us anything, he bought up debt because he saw a business opportunity to make money off it. He's just getting the money instead of the bank now. It's not like he suspended the payments. That's the difference between him and the other rich owners who actually benefit the clubs they own.

Leno is still much better in my opinion, but he’ll have a fight on his hands to get back in the first team

I am not sure Leno is much better. He barely edges it. Emi clearly better distributing the ball and commanding his box. I really don't want to see him leave.

I'm a big fan of Leno's, but Martinez has earned the chance of being our starting goalkeeper this season.

Martinez should be our Number 1. Leno was unfortunate but thats life, he is now number 2 until Martinez gets injured or has a very bad lapse. We really should hold onto both , but if we have to sell i would say Leno , in financial terms he would pull a bigger fee than Emi.
