I think Arteta will favour older heads. Lampard seemed to be doing much of the same as the league season came to a close as well. So guys like Nelson, Nketiah and Willock will be on thee bench. Maybe we see a Saka start.

Our performances against Chelsea this season have been encouraging. We will be up for it and hopefully we can score first. It will be great if we can cement our place as the best club in this competition.

Yeah I think so too. He never starts Willock and Nelson only got a couple of post lockdown starts so they wouldn't be starting this without injuries ahead of them anyway. Eddie may still have a chance but I think Laca did enough during Eddies suspension for Arteta to go with him. Eddies burst of energy in the second half. He's a great player to have if we are chasing goals but also if we go ahead and want to catch them on the break.

Both managers will really want to get their programs going with their first trophy. Can't go on trophyless forever like a Moyes or Pochettino.

Eddie's chances probably died with the red card unfortunately. Willock doesn't have a place in the side unless we line up with a 3 man midfield and I don't think we'll see that against Chelsea.

Saka has a chance at LM, but he might lose out to AMN. Personally I would hope both start with AMN on the right.

Its the FA cup final, everyone is going to be well up for it. Arteta and Lampard both won it as players and know what the occasion is all about.

That is what I would like to see as well.

Pepe- Lacazette - Aubameyang

But I think Arteta will go with AMN on the left and Bellerin on the right. Don't like Holding in there at all, but nothing we can do about it. Also if we do go AMN on left, should we consider Saka as a right winger? Or just go with Pepe.

Absolutely, we can really use Holding, Luiz, Aubamayeng, Xhaka to exploit Chelsea's weakness. They're the PL side with most goals conceded from set pieces (something like 20) with 3/4s coming from corners.

Maybe but theres some thinking to be done. Could see him being super charged for this against his youth club, a club which chose to stick with Tammy Abraham. Stretching the Chelsea centrebacks through a combination of short and over shoulder runs (needing pace) could be helpful.

I would start both Eddie and Nelson personally; I just think the improvement to the way we passed and moved in the offensive half was like night and day when they came on last time, but I get that it's probably not happening.

No excuses to not play them regularly next season though under the current circumstances.

I think we were much better at passing the ball around and moving off it yeah, and would have scored at least one more goal if Eddie hadn't tried to be kind to Aubameyang.

It's all about how you build chances. Most of our goals, Norwich included, happen against the run of play, as outright gifts or penalties, etc. It's unsustainable. Eddie seems like a much better, and quicker, passer than Laca to me, and Nelson makes the ball stick a bit in the attack. His appearance against Norwich was as good as I've seen him in the Arsenal first team. He put in a big performance against Liverpool too. I wouldn't have any qualms about starting him in a cup final.

Battle of the 3-4-3 formations I suppose? Seems Chelsea has been lining up:

Pulisic - Giroud - Willian

Alonso - Kovacic - Jorginho - James

I think Ceballos and Xhaka will do well against Kovacic/Jorginho, they're not the type of midfield (fast/runners) that expose our lack of pace in CM.

My main concern is Luiz/Holding stepping too early to Chelsea's intricate passing around the box, and Pulisic vs Bellerin. Could also see Alonso continuing to bully Bellerin in the air if we're not careful (and protected, that fucker).

I have somehow arranged to be hiking probably a hundred kilometres away from mobile reception when this is on (on a permit I sought out with friends months ago).

So I'll be coming back into mobile range some time on Monday 3 August to find out the result.

Oh well, at least the hike will be beautiful.

Huh? When was the goal from Ox and Monreal? The final was won via Sanchez and Rambo. And Holding was good that game although he did get bullied by Costa once.
