The English hate head on beer. I've even seen them skim the top of a Guinness.
How's that even supposed to work?
Was thinking of Guinness when I wrote my post btw, the difference in taste from Irish to international/German version is ridiculous. Guy I talked to in Dublin said the taste even varies in different parts of the country.
They just scrape the head off and keep pouring till there is none. Though I haven't seen that in decade or more. Although I'd never drink Guinness when I'm in England any more so that could be part of it too.
Its used to vary a lot more than it does these days because Guinness have taken more responsibility themselves for checking the quality of the lines, etc. I wouldn't say there are big regional differences rather that some pubs just have nicer Guinness than others. The regional differences are more that people in Y Vas neck of the woods drink Beamish or Murphys instead, both of which are nicer than Guinness IMO.
