Probably no other takers, and we need to get rid of him. As for Partey, we can't exactly demand a player they refuse to sell in return.
Yeah, but then we may as well keep Torreira as cover? Somehow we've come into the window lacking quality in midfield and ending it by lacking quality and quantity.
We could, but we have too many players. Can't register them all. And honestly, even if we could, would Torreira even make the bench most match days under current circumstances?
If this is our XI: Leno; Holding, Gabriel, Tierney; Bellerin, Ceballos, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang
... then these outfield players are left to fight for the 6 places on the bench: Cedric, Luiz, Pepé, Saka, Nelson, Nketiah, Willock, Mari, Mustafi, Torreira, Chambers, Saliba, Elneny, Martinelli, Smith-Rowe.
That's not even counting Kolasinac and Sokratis who I consider to be gone, nor Guendouzi and Özil who won't be considered for selection by Arteta. Not is it factoring in any new signings that might arrive. It's just hard to see any use for Torreira here. Maybe he'd manage to get on the bench occasionally while some of those players recover from injuries, but is that a good reason to keep him? So he can be the 18th match day squad member some of the time, and only while better players are injured?
I feel we're bloated personally, and any way we can get some of these blokes off the wage bill is welcome. Ideally we'll sell them, but we've seen how hard it is when they are on decent wages and no one in Europe has any money. Keeping Torreira and then not playing him is the one way to make sure his value will be completely ruined by the time next summer window arrives, where we otherwise might have an easier time selling.
