I don't agree, Klausie: I had been very critical of him in Wenger's last season here, but he had a very good spell under Emery and then came the ACL injury.

And trying to come back from that whilst playing with a torn groin and injections, what chance does he have? Happy to see him get a summer off and then a full pre-season.

I think his spell under Emery was overrated. Kolasinac had an even better spell and he's not particularly good either. When you overload the fullbacks in every attacking move they will rack up the numbers. Still seemed like the same old Bellerin to me in all other aspects aside from a few assist though.

It's not clear at all to me. Sure, it may be clear that Arteta doesn't want to play him there, but it's not clear why this goes to such a degree that he'd rather play injured players, Sokratis and sign Cedric before giving AMN another minute there.

Yeah I don't see what's clear about it at all, AMN was one of our best players vs United and that was at RB. Since then he's been frozen out, something must've happened on the training ground. Either he's being punished or Arteta is giving him what he wants which is no more playing full back.

The point is it's clear that it's not down to performances or ability, because you don't play a half injured centre back who can barely walk over him until he has no choice because he's simply considered 3rd or 4th best.

If you do want a reason though, then I don't think you have to look much further than Arteta's comments on Saka, especially when you factor in AMN's earlier comments in the media about him not being a right back:

Yeah that's pretty much what I was saying. Those comments are new but the sentiment has definitely been lingering about for a while, Ricky has mentioned it before too. AMN seems to lack drive and professionalism, his complaints sounded way out there for someone who shouold be chomping at the bit to play for Arsenal, even his mistakes seemed like they were a continuation of it.

We have plenty error prone players like Leno Xhaka or Mustafi but they always seem to come because of poor judgment of a situation or technical ability, with AMN it was regularly because he completely switches off which I assume will go down worse with most coaches.

AMN has the ability to be a very good PL player, maybe not top class but still very solid. If his attitude is that off though he'll drop down the leagues. When you are at that level hard work and a good attitude matter as much as anything else.

there is a big difference between amn and saka though. Saka played out of position for half a season and its a position he also played a little in the youth teams. amn was not given a proper chance in his favoured position for 3 years and when he played there in the past he showed great promise. he has a right to be frustrated. even more so when he sees duds play there in front of him not delivering regularly

I'd agree.

I like Douzi, but is he really that much better than AMN in midfield? Douzi has had one or two great CM performances, while AMN - in limited appearances - has had as many if not more, and against better opposition (Man United).

Forget Saka, Auba want's to play up top and finds himself shifted out to the wing behind Nketiah and a horrendously out of form Laca. But he does it.

Also he doesn't want to be a central midfielder, he want's to play on the right wing, so it's Pepe and Nelson he needs to beat.

It's not, I just edited to post the quote. He says he can play either centrally or on the wing. What he isn't is a natural defender.

He was good on the wing in the league cup for what it's worth, but like I said it doesn't really matter. It looks like he's done under Arteta.

Okay, but that's from last January. I just posted a quote from an interview in September:

Think it's obvious that he sees himself as a multifunctional midfielder rather than an utility fullback. His best performances have been in central midfield too.

Anyway, I would have thought the best way to make sure you get a chance in your favoured position is do everything you can for the club out of position. If it still doesn't happen for you, then you'd be fully justified in looking for a move elsewhere. But you certainly don't do yourself any favours by getting in the managers bad books.

Theres a big talent gap between the 2 as well though. AMN needs to get his head down and work hard, if he's good enough he'll get a chance in his favoured position.

Who knows what's been said and what hasn't though. What we do know is that he did what was asked for him out of position for two years and got absolutely fuck-all playing time in any preferred position as a reward. Maybe he made it clear to a new manager that he wanted to play as a midfielder after having been used for two years as a makeshift leftback and then a rightback, and Arteta didn't like that when he's thin on fullbacks. I don't really blame him either way.

People praise Saka right now for keeping his head down but he has played there for like two months, and he's already telling people that he doesn't see his future there. He's not going to be happy either in two years time if he has to play as a fullback on either flank depending on injuries while Martinelli is tearing it up on the left wing.
