I don't mind him being off form, but his body language and effort levels look a mile off from what it was. A couple of our efforts to press tonight fell apart because he was marking no one and pressing no one. Really needs to up his enthusiasm more than anything else.

looks like his effort levels have dropped, which is a problem. he's been jogging in alot of his sub appearances as well. I've always been a bit skeptical about eddie in general but he had improved sufficiently in the last 12-18 months that he'd started to convince me he had a place here. hopefully that progress doesn't evaporate

This is the problem. Marginally creative flicks at the near post don't make up for an overall lack of effort - effort that I thought we were guaranteed to get when Eddie signed his contract. The kid is starting games in Europe for a top-of-the-table PL team. The idea that he could be disaffected in any way is very frustrating to me.

The problem last night was everyone looked low on enthusiasm. Eddie has his issues at the moment but I don't think complacency is one.

Even if your Xhakas and Odegaards are feeling a bit jaded, when you're starting midweek with something to prove, wouldn't you play like hell? That's not what I saw, what I saw is much closer to complacency.

4 year 100k a week contract is another disaster waiting to happen. He simply cannot be relied upon and at 23 has not developed to the standard of even a back-up striker.

His performance this week was near flawless. His overall game seems to have gone up a level. His touch to hold up the ball, his layoffs, his decision making - when to run with the ball and put pressure on the opposition, his commitment to press from the front. The only complaint I have if any was his inability to properly finish that first half chance when Xhaka sent him through. Wasn't exactly a one v one situation vs the goalie, but he had the advantage, and could have been more aggressive.

I very much liked what I saw from him against West Ham. Can he carry the mantle until Jesus gets back? I think he might be able to if he can keep up this form and attitude.

Agreed Flo. He was really good. The biggest question for me is that last word. Hopefully he doesn't go through another phase where he isn't putting in a shift. If he continues to do that he'll be a handful, goals or no goals

Yeah. My main concern with him coming into the game was his pressing and he did it very well, was really switched on.

goon Yeah. When he’s not really pressing properly you tend to see it with the way he makes challenges. On those days it kind of feels like he’s taking the easy way out by fouling his man instead of really blocking the angles properly and forcing the turnover.

When he’s up for it he’s a pretty good all round player. I just hope that his extended run in the side because of the Jesus injury doesn’t lead to him becoming complacent. That said, whilst things are going well and we are in a title race, I don’t see anyone really dropping off or getting complacent and risking becoming the person to blame.

Cannot argue with his record. I’d still like to see him contribute more outside the box, and I think he lacks quality at times in terms of decision making and linking play, but he’s ruthless if given a sniff.

James yeah thats fair. Jesus is the opposite and obviously better. Ideal striker has Jesus all round game and Eddies nose for goals.

As it is I love them both for what they bring.

QuincyAbeyie I'm not sure he has scored any as a sub. He has obviously has a lot of a short sub apps in that period on top of those starts
