Wait. What? Based on this one performance? Against that shitty Chelsea defence? Why are we begging Eddie Nketiah? He did well, but he isn’t my own standard even for back up striker in an Arsenal champions league team. More like 3rd string. Or What are we talking about here?
Listen if nothing else, that's a £20m+ asset going out on a free. Then you have to factor in that if he leaves we'd have to spend a similar amount on a likely substandard replacement, funds which could be used on the main man.
And it's not based on one game, I've been saying for a while that in the ideal world we convince Eddie to stay. Though the £92m man barely got a touch against this shitty Arsenal defence, so his performance yesterday deserves credit. He was good against Southampton too.
Since when do we as a club care about good asset stewardship? *raised brow
The reason he’s off on a free is because we haven’t managed his situation properly, or we chose not to renew because the manager doesn’t see him as crucial to his future plans. And looking at Eddie’s body of work the last two years when he’s had a chance, here and on loan, it’s understandable - he hasn’t exactly given us much to crow about. We’ll take the financial hit like we always do. It is what it is.
And I’m not saying don’t give him credit for his performance (goals) - both were well taken, and much needed. We definitely don’t get those if Mnsr Missing European Football is on the pitch instead. But neither is Arsenal standard. One because he is old and crap. The other because he basically hasn’t improved his game one jot since he has been here.
