Sorry for your loss Big Will.
New York is exemplifying what can happen even with suppression measures if the system is fragile. My heart goes out to people living three families to an apartment in Queens, and to the health workers there who will likely soon be dealing with thousands of patients on ventilators simultaneously.
There are many other vulnerable places around the world, the experience of Norway can't be projected onto them. Remembering that in New York this is all happening with a lockdown in place—albeit one delivered late—I can't see the legitimacy of calling this a "bad flu season". It's clear also that even if lockdown measures take positive effect in more organised places this will be with us for a long time, with further outbreaks and probably rolling regional suppression measures.
A mate of mine who's a construction archaeologist in NYC has just been told he's losing his job in three weeks. From the tone I'm getting he's starting to freak out a bit. His cat's seriously sick and he'll have to catch the bus to the vet today, just a small thing made into an anxious and unsafe ordeal by what's happening.
