Victor Orban's been busy in his three days as the new dictator and supreme lawmaker of Hungary, introducing a bunch of very important corona-related laws. Among them is one that makes it illegal to perform or undergo gender reassignment surgery, one that levels parks in Budapest to create a new museum glorifying Hungarian nationalism, and a third one that gives him the right to determine what kind of plays the theatres in the country are allowed to perform. Schools have been given new curriculums that make openly anti-semitic books and authors a part of standard education.
Another law signed 30 retirement homes over to the catholic church, because it's very important during a pandemic to make sure the church can pick some extra pockets for mandatory fees now that people, especially the elderly, are rolling around in cash.
It's all just really great, and a nice reminder of just how fucking awful and disappointing Europe is. Always worth keeping in mind when people across three continents are cheering for martial law, military surveillance, and politicians who threaten to use flamethrowers and jail sentences to combat civilians who dare to venture outside their own homes.
