Nah, Saka had already begun to struggle a little in the last few games and penciling him in to play 50 games next year is a sure fire way to break him. Martinelli is effectively out until 2021.

Willian is the perfect signing if you're betting on the kids.

Not really. Saka and Martinelli are already back up players as is. Auba being the first choice LW, Pepe on the right. If Willian comes in then I can't see there being room for all of Saka, Marti, Nelson, Smith-Rowe, etc

If its a case that Auba is leaving Willian is an awful choice as he isn't much of a goal scoring winger.

Maybe.

Coutinho might be more talented but Willian feels like a better team player. Arteta mentioned a couple of times that bringing in players with the right mentality is key and in that case the latter fits the profile better.

I can live with either, I just hope we don't sign both.

I agree with this view.
The kids are great. But we have to be realistic. Martinelli is only coming back in 2021 and Saka also had to be sat at the end of the season when we were chasing a trophy and top 7 finish. Giving ourselves breathing room is great. Better this than splash £10m pounds just to have Coutinho walk through the door before you pay his salary for a similar productivity.

Also have to look at Tierney and Bellerin in defence, two players who are probably injured from overuse. Depth is vital.

I'm assuming Laca is going and Auba is moving up top.

That would leave us with Saka, Willian, Nelson and Pepe on the wings and eventually Martinelli joining them. I think that's a good set.

If Laca stays then I don't know, but I think it would be mad to keep him if there is serious interest.

I have exactly one worry.
In all those videos, Capi pointed out his one footedness. It's actually quite glaring when you watch him for a long time. A lot of players use the other foot to trap or for short passing. This guy might as well be one-legged. Why is this important? You lose time and options when you are trying to play out of a press.

Seems to be some truth to this, yes. But he will apparently be quite a bit cheaper than someone like Carlos, and although I want a defender I don't want to use a huge part of our budget there. Unless we're shopping in the 50m+ bracket we'll get flawed players. Gabriel is young and I think the problems you mention can largely be couched out of him. You won't teach a player to be two-footed like Cazorla, but you can definitely teach him to utilize the weaker foot as well.

The reason I think we need a technically capable player is if we are playing out of the back a lot you will want central defenders who are good dribbling and passing so that they can

build upwards and overlap with the DM to move the ball up, and dribble out of traps
be able to pass in both directions so we don't get stuck in those passing loops that Kolasinac causes

This guy is going to make these building blocks really difficult to execute. We see all of this now with Kola and Holding. This is why Mustafi starts over Holding, Sokratis and others.

Gabriel is very one footed at the moment, but he also can ping a pass whether short or long, and executes some passes that midfielders do not try.

He's just as much one footed as most right footed CB's it's just exaggerated because he is left footed.

In a way he is quite similar to Saliba, a unit difficult to get past, with good reading of the game.

yeah. the problem is Coutinho solves the 8/10 question and Partey doesn't. Ceballos can try but he's more of an Iwobi type link man there when we want little bit dynamism
