I think it’s the most we can do.
It pains me to see Xhaka and Ozil together in that midfield. We really need a shock to the system there. Maybe Partey + Sangare gives us the physicality we need.

I really want Lacazette and Xhaka out. And Ozil will sort himself out or sit.

Partey and a CB would make us a lot stronger. More legs in midfield and at the back than we have had in years.

If somehow Arteta could get a playmaker in the middle of the park, then we would be in business.

Willock will have a big role next year, it will be interesting to see what he can do.

Potentially did the same on Pépé. Philippe Auclair seems to know that we did something unusual but wasn’t willing to elaborate on an interview

I think Willock will have a big year too. I'm counting on both him and Eddie to take big steps in 2020.

I'm actually relaxed about centrebacks. Indications are we'll keep Mari, which seems sensible to me. He could end up being almost perfect for us. We might be a little short numbers-wise, but with Saliba coming in I would be willing to put faith in Chambers's recovery. I think the level he played at pre-injury was good enough for a starter, and he definitely had a gear or two left too. Just keep those three and Luiz, and get rid of everyone else, except maybe Holding who I feel could use a loan to, I dunno, Bournemouth or some similar club.

Having Partey on the pitch would make all of our CBs better, but none of them are or will be world class or even top CBs next year.

That's probably a fair assessment Coombs. Are there any world class centrebacks in the league at all, though, aside from van Dijk? I don't feel Mari, Saliba, Chambers and Luiz would come up short relative to most of the top four competition.

We'll just have to keep making gradual improvements and see where it lands us. Getting back into CL for a season or two would make it so much easier for us to pick up more highly-rated talents like Saliba too.

Probably not. Unless I'm forgetting someone Soyuncu was the best non-van Dijk CB and Laporte is the only other really good one I can think about, but the former has played one season in a top league and Laporte is always injured. I do think Gomez looks great at times, but it's hard to tell how he'd look while paired with literally anyone else.

It's not a great league for CBs at the moment, even better reason to go out and get one honestly. I'd personally add the scummy Belgians and Rudiger to Quincy's list, though.

Agreed, but I wouldn't put him in the "top" bracket just yet. Has it all to prove. Our current crop won't get there next season, imo, and I'd at least like to have someone that might.

Now that is a world class spine. It's the type of investment Pool made with Dijk and Fabinho.

Laporte is quality. Though perhaps not world class.

Umtiti is busted, and not the profile we need.

Better off going for someone like Gabriel.

Agree with opinion that midfield and a wide forward for the left is where we need to focus our resources

Zaha would still be a great signing for us but theres no noise on that front

Partey seems like the obvious prime target
