I agree. Brighton are playing it out from the back well enough with people like Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy and Dan Burn. I really don't think it's that difficult for any footballer at Premier League level to pass the ball around. You just need a coach that gives you the confidence to do it, and part of that is having the midfielders provide passing options much better than they do at Arsenal.

Dunk and Burn are good ball playing defender anyway, Duffy is the surprising one but he has been dropped by Potter more often than not this season.

You see Sokratis and Cech passing to each other enough to know passing at the highest level out from the back cn't be taught.

They are good players, I agree; Dunk particularly who I wouldn't have been opposed to sign last summer, but there's no way they're better than ours technically.

Our defenders, bar Sokratis, are all capable with the ball at feet. They're just not very good at defending.

I really hope Arteta doesn't try to emulate Pep. I don't think he will though, he has a lot of experience that will hopefully make him more pragmatic. Hopefully a bit of Moyes rubbed off on him because he did a good job with some rag tag groups when he was at Everton. Thats what Arteta needs to channel now, not some Pep perfection.

I think even Sokratis can do it. I watched him play it out from the back under both Klopp and Tuchel. He's bang average on the ball but he can pass it quicker and better than he does. I think we just need to have a plan first, because he's definitely not the kind of player who works himself to a good passing angle. If it's not there it's not there, and he either gives the ball back to Leno or plays it to a fullback under pressure. We've seen that so many times. Definitely think this is a problem that is exaggerated because our central midfield is so disappointing. If you coach them to come for the ball by default we're going to rely less on tight margins down the flanks to get the ball up the field.

The problem isn't that our defenders can't pass the ball. The problem is that there is (often) no one to pass the ball to.

If both of them can keep moving away from their current positions, that would be good. Ideally, all the way out of the stadium to Turkey and Germany.

I agree that we aren't compact enough. I just don't think pushing up is an option at the moment. I'd be OK with one or 2 kids playing deeper. If we can pull teams further up the pitch we have good players to get in behind.

He used to play wide right quite a bit for Everton so hopefully.
