I worry that our execs are clueless noon football people so backing a manager from them isn't s great endorsement. I also think they have a lot of pride that they took this brave decision and will look totally foolish is it doesn't come off so they are desperate to stick with it as long as they can.

For me what we have now isn't really different from Emery's time. That's what I don't get lots of the media ridiculed him the team look clueless but now well the players are crap. They were just add crap for Emery but that was not used to explain it away.

I also remember chat like Arsenal can't go around spending money so that's why we can't go down the top coach route. Now a few of the Arsenal centric journos seem to be saying he needs big financial backing, right why couldn't we do that before then.

The reality for me is the team has been the same as always we never created lots of chances with Artet just had a forward in exceptional form that glisset over that. Now he's in poor form you see we have nothing else and the defence isn't really that great. All we've done is put an inflexible structure in that means we have more bodies in positions which makes it harder for any team but at still give away tons of good chances so to me it's not a defensive indicator.

Partially agree. we have to burn off those middling players, but at the same time stop doing favours for kia and picking up dreck. Keep accumulating guys like gabriel and partey ie. players that have the quality to contribute regardless of the current coaching regime

I understand the reasons for doing so re our piss poor cash flow and lack of available on hand revenues for up front transfer fee requirements. Whilst it is easier for our revenues to absorb increased wages on free agents and extended payments than to make market sized initial payments on transfer fees, the end result is we have a compromised squad & shelf life with little re-sale value on an inflated wages bill.

Not just this but also recruiting a squad that is suitable / capable / adaptable to more 'traditional' styles and team structures, as opposed to being highly specialised to a very unique style of play.

As I said earlier elsewhere IMO AW built a squad based upon a core of technical #10s to enable his 1 touch short passing possession style, and it only looks Frankenstein-ish when we try to adapt it to play a more normal style and structures because it is not fit for that purpose. Let alone the only players with any resale value are much of those same technical #10s, so we have essentially asset stripped and are left with the dross and bloated expensive components.

Was reading a comment recently that we have swapped a single football voice (AW) for two (Arteta & Edu), but we still lack the checks and balances in place to ensure we are not repeating the same levels of dependency on the football operations alone.

how many "football" people are needed and who are these "football" people? ex-players? most of our old players seem quite dumb. a manager and a technical director should be enough. who are the football people above monchi at sevilla? someone has to call the shots. if that person is a failure you fire them.

There needs to be some accountability structure above them that needs to set the boundaries / KERs / KPIs etc, or someone independent of the football operations that at least understands the industry as opposed to being an executive who's expertise is based in another field.
They don't need to be former players like the Bayern Executive - DD fulfilled a similar role in his time here.

My impression re Monchi is that he is very much aligned to the club ideals and principles as opposed to setting them himself, whereas here it seems to be more freedom for the football/technical operation to take the lead and the club to follow.

As much as anything we still have our 'football' expertise coming from the same one area within the club structure, which was the issue raised by the BoD re Sanllehi & their suggestion of having the likes of O'Leary as an SME on the BoD.

Most 'footballing people' in the game think Arteta is the business. The Kroenke's wouldn't need some old washed up pro who wasn't good enough to be a manager himself (not referring to anyone specific) to tell them whether or not someone is worth sticking with. And as we've seen with Ferguson at United, it can actually be counter productive.

I've just posted another analysis article in the NLD thread that shows Arteta is getting his system into place much akin to Guardiola in being based upon creating passing triangles. However it is more the positioning, decision making and execution by players through the midfield in transition and the attack in the final 3rd that is more the issue rather than the system.

I guess who are the football people that rate Arteta. The biggest cheerleaders I've seen are lots of Pro Arsenal journalists and they don't give much supporting evidence beyond people speaking well of him and believe he'll be a top manager.

But equally city who supposedly thought he was so impressive didn't seem to do much to retain him.

It was probably in City’s best interests to set him free and see if he could actually do the job rather than just have him replace Pep. Also if they were to extend Pep, as they eventually did, he would’ve gotten restless. Remember, unlike Barca, there’s no City B where Arteta could test his ideas in a risk free environment

I think that's probably fair but then that makes sense. He looks potentially good but massive risk, let him go and prove himself. The mistake is that we are the test club for this. We should have a similar approach to city you can't just give an unproven manager that kind of role first time.
