Pet peeve.

James was NEVER elite. He had a great World Cup outing, that’s it.

Isco was very good, but I’d struggle to place him in the elite bracket too.

James was probably one of the 10 best players in the world in his first two full seasons for Real. I'd say that qualifies as elite. He had a smashing first season for Bayern too.

Flamengo just signed Gabigol permanently. Massive news for their fans. Maybe they'll care less about losing Mari this window now.

Kind of surprised he went on such a cheap after the season he has had and Europe clubs didn't even bother about him

James had one world class season at Real Madrid. His second, no way. Bayern didn't want to keep him after his loan either, very glad we didn't buy him from Real. Isco have failed to reach the height of his world class season too.

Lots of report that United has succumbed to pressure and will pay 80m for Bruno Fernandes.

His stats from midfield is really interesting, don't really want him to go to United

James was definitely world class in his first season under Ancelotti. Was also great in his first year in Bavaria

I hope it's true, not because I don't think Kurzawa is a good player (albeit with a very questionable attitude) or because I have always really fancied Saka at left back, but because you absolutely can not be a 'yes' man at a big club. You live and die by results and the results are dictated 95% by the players you have. You have got to assert your authority and push the club to get the players you want out and the players you want in.

I've only seen Fernandes play a couple of times against us in the Europa, but he looked a player without much going on other than a good shot.

He didn't look like a top class talent when he was in Italy either, but he was pretty young back then.

You really think he's that good though Willie? Personally I don't think he's anywhere near good enough to start for Real or Barca or City. He could go to a top club and sit on the bench, but his career would be over if he did.

I reckon his choice was between Inter, United and maybe Napoli, and he picked the club with most potential upside over the next few years. They've got rich owners now, Conte has taken them up a level and they will probably win Serie A next season. They still have a pretty good shot at it this year. It's a good deal for a 28 year old player who hasn't won a trophy in the last 8 years.

I don't actually but considering they were after him previously maybe it was a case of they didn't rate him highly to spend a large fee but could have picked him up on a free. I guess he just doesn't back himself to be good enough to be a good player for the likes of Madrid in which case fair enough. Still feel he's left a lot of money on the table and could have just signed for them in the summer. Maybe he feels he can win the league with them this year ahead of Juve, I dunno but still, as a last big contract for a player who had the sort of hype he's had in the PL over the last few years I think a bit more belief in himself and/or a good agent he could have managed to leverage a lot more out of his situation.

This, he's supposed to be a key player in our recruitment and this looks like a total mistake. Worried about what that could mean.

Cesc said it was the scout that found him for arsenal that found martinelli. Maybe edu helped smooth over the deal though.
