Proper centre midfield performance. Super passing accuracy, plenty of good progressive passes, lots of tackles and interceptions, non-stop running but with positional discipline and supported AMN really well throughout.

A complete midfield performance. What a prospect! Deserves a lot more respect on here.

we weren't put under huge amounts of pressure in the game, and that suits him i think. on those away days against pacy powerful teams, when the midfield abandons its post and it's 1-way traffic for 15 - 20 minute stretches, i'd be interested to see if he's grown in stature to cope with those phases

Could be on that level. It's potentially hard to be dazzled by him because his game is so restrained. But he is technically spot on, confident, keeps the ball moving. He definitely looks like he belongs at such a young age. It's funny that very often we talk about giving youth a chance and people talk about Willock, AMN, Nelson and forget about Guendouzi

That's badly done if they did that. A player X vs. Team comp should always feature every time the player was involved with the ball. I didn't watch the match myself, but if they were selective with what they included, would it have made sense to include the bad moments they had in the beginning?

I'm 80% there with Douzi but think he'll fall just short of being a tier 1 player - same for Torriera. Both will end up being very good but whether they ever become key men in title winning teams, I don't know. Then again Henderson and Gini are key men in one of the most competitive teams in Europe so you never know.

Agree on the guendouzi points and the use of these compilations is always not a very accurate representation in my view. He did okay but Newcastle were not a team putting us under massive pressure. Guendouzi a bit like Xhaka looks less comfortable when teams put him under pressure and that's where the truly higher quality midfielders demonstrate their class.

Guendouzi needs to release the ball quicker. He dwells on it for too long, and gets robbed in dangerous areas of the pitch.

Part of that is naivety, part is a lack of strength. Once bulks up a bit, he will boss his opponents more

Guendouzi is certainly ahead of where Ndombele was at 19/20 years of age. We'll have to see how he develops, but he's certainly precocious.

As far as midfield prospects go, I don't think he gets anything like the recognition he deserves. What he did last season was extraordinary. Yet, I have seen some posters here (I'll keep it anonymous!) group him with Xhaka, and talk about him with that same disdain.

He's one of the biggest midfield talents in world football. And he is, and was last season, one of the better midfielders in the Premier League, in my opinion. Imagine if you saw this big haired, big personality, Frenchman strutting around in United, Tottenham, City or Liverpool's midfield, bossing games at 19 years of age? The praise he would get from Arsenal fans generally, and on here, would be relentless.

Fabregas skews or has skewed our perspective as Arsenal fans I think. GDZ is a decent player, but concerns about his tactical adaptability, positioning and glaring inability to consistently defend opposing midfielders, especially in defensive transition aren’t misplaced.

But the things you mention are more experiance related, rather than talent & personality.

I think the issue is more Torreira who is also relatively young, and Xhaka being in his peak/experienced, and always murmurs that Ozil needs to be played at 10, leaving Guendouzi with no spot in the team. But he is an elite talent, our biggest from the youth, it's between him and ESR.

True and credit Guendouzi for not flopping about at the slightest touch in this game and i'm hoping he has got that out of his game as, if he gets a reputation, refs will not even blow for genuine fouls.

Last season he had some weaknesses, I agree. Especially defensively, but he was 19 years old and with almost no experience. It was easy to see that with the ability, personality and intelligence he has that he would improve quickly. And in his 2 or 3 pre-season games and up at Newcastle, you can already see improvement in his game. Positionally he has been much more disciplined and he seems to be making a bettter fist of tackling; more robust and from better positions.

This said, last season, the kid at 19 from nowhere, as Speedy says, with such talent and personality. It got a little lost in a down season, but that was really something.

It didn't get lost. His form fell off a cliff about ten games in.

I agree and is why Xhaka and Torreira are ahead of him in the team. That said he has a higher ceiling but as we know only too well with a host of our highly rated youngsters through the years, reaching it is no guarantee.

Agree, feels like there's plenty of sketchy moments edited out. Yet to be convinced by guendouzi as a starter. Id be keen to see what willock can do in his role for a spell

I felt he was chiefly responsible for us losing shape in the first half. He does things well on the ball but his game without it is just bad. So easy to draw out of position. He's young and learning though.

My initial feeling was that there were parts missing too, just like in the Chambers compilation where they (for instance) left out how he lost a header in extra time that probably would have resulted in a goal if Newcastle had been doing their job.

I'd like to see Willock given a few starts in that role too. I think he might have started there instead against Newcastle if Özil had made the game.
