He is a clown but that's better than Mustafi.

I mean, I'm not going to go to any great lengths to defend him but he's good enough to get us into the top four. Mustafi and Chambers are not.
BTW I actually think Phil Jones is pretty good before he got permanently ruined by injuries
I mean I get the need to feel like we got a good deal post Kos, but... newsflash: Kos was not the defender we needed to replace this summer. This was a desperate bit of business. Don’t see us being any better for it.

Such a weird comparison. For all his faults, they're basically opposites.
flobaba wrote:Why does or did he want to leave Chelsea again?
Apparently Lampard has demoted him to fourth choice CB.

And now he’s our first choice eh?
Yay.
Yippee.
Luiz can help Martinelli settle in too. Good to replace Kos' experience. This seems like a sensible, if not exciting, signing. Like when we signed Mart Poom, but better. Actually not really like Mart Poom at all.
Could be an insurance signing with Kos gone. I think we are still after a CB.

Kos definitely needed replacing too. For all intents and purposes he could only play once a week.
It's a reactive bit of business but I wouldn't say it's weakened us

or desperate as there's no time to get another CB?

He was their first choice when Sarri was there. Would you be happier if Sarri hadn't left so that we wouldn't have to say that Chelsea's fourth choice was our first choice?

i really wish we'd be in for a good reliable backup GK. if leno gets hurt, we're fucked

Don’t worry we got Pépé who can play there
Gonna have to squint each game to avoid seeing Luiz play for us.
At this rate we're getting suarez next year?
united replacing lukaku with mandzukic. superior player that can actually make their team play better. only doubts about how he adapts to the epl tempo

This is essentially how I see it.
We have replaced Koscielny, who we didn't want to lose but had to make the best of a bad sitiation, and now we need to find someone else to fill the 3000 minutes Mustafi played last season.
Holding will need time, Chambers is suspect, and Mustafi is being sold. So I expect a centreback to come in tomorrow. Luiz and Sokratis as our only reliable CBs for the next 2 or 3 months is not a good situation.
Whatever happened to upa? This is like the anti pepe signing. I mean it's sensible but come on... Why him?

Agreed, Mandzukic is amazing. He's 33 though, so it's a bit risky move on United's part.
Good place to be with only CB left to be done on the last day. Assuming we get Luiz across the line painlessly I would not be surprised to see us pull of a madness in the last few hours of the window - cautiously optimistic that we will hear something about Upamecano in the next 16 hours.
