Y'all are so ready to jump on this club. I'm still holding out for the best-case scenario, and I'm willing to believe we are stretching it to the deadline to get the best possible players in we can, not because we just thought of signing a CB yesterday.

just want to reiterate something i said recently. the summer transfer window should only be open for 2 weeks, from july 1 to july 15. they keep taking these half measures to shorten it, but its nowhere near short enough. force teams to do their business and stop fucking around. ive wasted hours here refreshing this thread, i need to get actual work done

Members of the board, what the fuck?
The window is a decent length. The English Fa did well to close it before the season begins. Our team had so much work to do. Would be hard to sort it out in 2 weeks, especially with all the summer tourneys.

Also Klaus while you might be correct about this not being a "outsmarting the market" type of situation please stop dragging the mood down

This place was unbearable for most of last season and I want to at least enjoy it until we start fucking up on the pitch

I don't know how old you are/when you started following football but wonder how you coped before 2002 when there were no limitations.

The window to register players only really needs to be one day.

The only difference a longer window makes is if you want to make deals contingent on outgoings or incomings. None of that's the case here, transfers like this would be ages in the making transfer window or not ffs

A solid first eleven, and Holding could come into the first team. Depth in attack is worrying.

No Mustafi, so I could get behind that.

I'd imagine we'll see Lacazette and Auba rotating a lot at CF so we'd see Iwobi/Nelson at LW. Of concern, doesn't seem Ozil or Mkhi play well out there.

we should offer to sell them ESR for £20m if they sell us upamecano now for £50m and we agree to loan him back for 1 year. his release clause drops next summer (still above £50m), but they'd get to keep him for this season, and then get £50m for him when he has 1 year left on his deal, and they get ESR for less than we value him.

would suck to not have him this season, but maybe we can patch the defense together this season. we're still not winning the league this season. no need to burn a bridge at a club that has tons of good young talent. id rather secure upamecano and wait a year, same with saliba, than settle for rugani.

That's a reasonable route, but I worry we'll also need next year for Saliba/Upamecano to get up to speed.

What about:

Sell ESR this year to them, loan Upamecano with a first rights clause for next year at his release clause (which is quite high)?

Emery told @IbrahimKhadra that #AFC are working on at least one deal before the transfer window shuts. He was asked about Coutinho and jokingly replied that the Brazilian is on his way to London this evening.

This ebening?

Right, going back to hoping Upamecano will show up on the official site in the next 40 hours or whatever's left. It still seems like a good bet to me, and if we're serious about him I don't see why we wouldn't get it done. I refuse to believe we're willing to pay £60 million but would let the season fall apart because Leipzig ask for ten more.

Maybe because Klaus who watches him week-in, week-out said he was like Xhaka in defence.

I don't watch him week in week out to be fair, but I've seen him enough to have a decent opinion of him. I follow a bit of the discussion around Serie A in general too and I know what the Juve fans think of him. It doesn't combine for a pretty picture.

The most worrying part to me is the rumours about a two-year loan with a mandatory buy clause. I just can't see how it's a good move to spend £50-60 million in total on this guy over the next 24 months and then not even have the option of getting rid of him.

We've been told we're outsmarting the market, but does spending £80 million on Pepe and then picking up scraps from other clubs really fit that idea? What's the plan here, exactly? How come we have a three month transfer window but we're still left on deadline day trying to pick out a few good apples at the bottom of a rotten barrel?

I couldn't agree more.
Outsmarting the market should be giving us more CB options than Upamecano, Rugani and, god forbid, Luiz.

This sounds relatively upbeat I guess. Appreciate it, tak

Think we will end up with Tierney, and Luiz. With Upamacano agreed for next year with ESR going to Leipzig on loan. Maybe a last minute push for Coutinho too.

Kroenke may not be willing to invest, but he should certainly be convinced that loaning some of next year's transfer budget to the club would be in his interest as we won't get back into the Champions League, his money maker, without defensive signings.

Luiz is a vile character and it's obviously a downer after our very public pursuit for Upamecano, but those two should be enough for top 4. Luiz has some moments befitting of his clown hair, but I'd still consider him our best CB unless Holding comes back as strong has he was when he got injured.

hes a disgusting piece of shit. i dont want to have to support him. fuck

I'm guessing that deal for Upamacano agreed for next summer, with ESR going there now wouldn't necessarily need to be done by tomorrow's deadline?

Ornstein & Fabrizio saying Spurs have near enough agreed a deal for Lo Celso, what kind of player is he?

Wait, why is David Luiz considered a "vile" character?

Although most my Brazilian friends won’t even mention his name post Germany 7-1 game.

Loves a cheeky unnoticed stamp on his opponents too

Even more poorly than he plays CB

I never thought i’d get over not going for Ismael Bennacer. I truly thought I’d never be more disappointed by the club than that. Without a doubt a turning point in the history of this great club.

But here we are, looking to replace possibly our worst ever signing, in Mustafi, with a centre back with trophy winning and prem experience. This is too much to take.

I think it is trying to be sarcastic, but too much sarcasm has caused the post to OD.
